This role requires someone who is highly analytical to ensure the efficient and cost-effective movement of materials, equipment, and resources to and from construction sites. This role involves overseeing the logistical aspects of construction projects, which can be complex and demanding. Responsibilities: Material Procurement: Coordinate the procurement of construction materials, ensuring they are delivered to the construction site on time and in the right quantities. This includes managing relationships with suppliers, negotiating prices, and monitoring inventory levels. Inventory Management: Maintain an accurate inventory of materials and equipment on construction sites. Implement systems for tracking inventory levels, reorder points, and restocking materials as needed to avoid project delays. Transportation Management: Arrange and manage the transportation of materials and equipment to and from construction sites. This includes selecting appropriate modes of transportation (trucks, forklifts, cranes, etc.), scheduling deliveries, and optimizing routes for cost-efficiency. Storage and Warehousing: Ensure the safe and secure storage of construction materials and equipment. This may involve setting up temporary on-site storage facilities or coordinating with off-site warehouses. Risk Management: Identify potential logistical risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. This includes addressing issues such as theft, damage, and delays in material deliveries. Budget Management: Prepare and manage budgets for logistics-related expenses, such as transportation, warehousing, and equipment maintenance. Monitor and control costs to stay within budgetary constraints. Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and safety standards related to transportation and handling of construction materials and equipment. This includes permitting, licensing, and environmental regulations. Coordination: Collaborate closely with project managers, site supervisors, and other team members to align logistics with project timelines and goals. Effective communication and coordination are essential to avoid delays and disruptions. Resource Allocation: Allocate resources effectively to meet project demands. This includes assigning vehicles, equipment, and personnel as needed to support ongoing construction activities. Quality Control: Implement quality control measures to ensure that materials and equipment meet the required standards and are in good condition when they arrive at the construction site. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all logistical activities, including receipts, invoices, and delivery schedules. This documentation is essential for auditing and reporting purposes. Continuous Improvement: Seek opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and increased efficiency in the logistics operations of the construction company. Requirements: Advanced or Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience working in one or more of the following: Engineering, purchasing, contract negotiation, material or production planning, operations or supply chain management, material cost control or master production scheduling. Must have prior experience in the construction industry, as it provides an understanding of the unique challenges and requirements of construction logistics. Experience in logistics and supply chain management is essential. Demonstrated experience in leadership and ability to manage a team effectively. Knowledge of relevant software and technologies for logistics management. Strong understanding of logistics principles, including procurement, inventory management, transportation, and warehousing, is crucial. Effective communication is essential, coordinate with various stakeholders, including project managers, suppliers, and site personnel.
