We pride ourselves on being the New Bridge ‘community’, a vocational destination, not just a job.
The school has an Outstanding rated provision which caters for 363 pupils with a wide range of SEND, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple learning difficulties, including severe and complex learning difficulties. The school is popular with families both in Oldham and the surrounding boroughs and our numbers are increasing year on year. We are excited about being able to expand our teaching roles and create new vacancies to meet the needs of our new pupils. The school also caters for a wide range of pupils including those with physical disabilities, multisensory impairments, visual impairments, hearing impairments and autism spectrum conditions. All pupils have an EHC plan. In order to cater to the needs of the range of pupils the school has developed a range of different provisions, including our Key Stage 3 main body, Autism Base, Interactive Base and Key Stage 4 Community Living Groups.
The Trustees are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner to join our dynamic, growing and committed staff team in the following area:
Interactive Base Teacher
New Bridge School’s Interactive Base has two Pathways within it. This vacancy is for teachers to work with our Pathway 2 learners. This pathway is designed for students who require a static and nurturing approach to their education. The main focus of learning is to develop functional communication, independence, social interaction, self and sensory regulation skills which will enable these pupils to achieve their full potential. The curriculum echoes that of the main school and students enjoy all subjects and have full access to all the school’s facilities. The pupils are grouped in classes which go across age groups and sometimes Key Stages to best meet their needs. The primary need of the pupils in this cohort are related to speech, language and communication difficulties. The focus of the Curriculum is to develop these skills to a functional level to enable them to participate as fully as possible in their day to day life and community. These pupils are working towards a destination of playing a part in their community and are likely to require lifelong support to do so. The class teachers in these settings focus largely on EHCP outcomes and deliver the majority of subjects to pupils. Enrichment subjects like PE, Music and Art are delivered by a specialist teacher. We are looking for a form tutor for a class in this provision. This role is ideally suited to Primary practitioners from either a mainstream or special needs background. The class groups in this pathway sit at approximately 10 pupils and have a much higher staff to pupil ratio. We are looking for a class teacher for a group in this provision.
Due to the complex nature of our students, high levels of emotional and physical resilience are needed. However, the knowledge that our work is making a positive impact in helping the young people to grow and work towards independence brings great reward.
If you share our determination and ambition to ensure that this provision is a beacon of outstanding practice this role offers an exciting opportunity to develop in a forward thinking and outward looking organisation.
Your continued development will also be a priority, and you will receive excellent support and advice from a talented team of colleagues who will invest in your professional learning. Alongside your role as class teacher there are opportunities to take on Curriculum Leadership roles.
