The HLTA’s main role is to provide class cover support across the school, being able to teach and deliver a high standard of teaching and learning to classes from Nursery to Year 6. You will need to have high expectations of the pupil/s that you work with and yourself, with a determined approach to ensuring every child can succeed. We are looking to appoint someone who: Has a record of delivering high quality teaching and learning in a primary school setting Is knowledgeable about the Primary National Curriculum and has taught a range of subjects Is competent and confident to teach pupils from Nursery to Year 6 Has a positive approach to behaviour management and promotes a ‘can do’ attitude Has high expectations of themselves and others Can work as part of a team and is an effective communicator Is organised and can use initiative as needed Wishes to continue to develop as a professional Duties and responsibilities Support for Pupils / Students Assess the needs of pupils and use detailed knowledge and advanced specialist skills to support pupils/students learning. Use advanced specialist skills to meet the intellectual, physical, social and emotional needs of pupils/students Support for the Teacher / Academy Provide short/long term cover supervision of classes Monitor and assess individuals and groups of pupils/students and provide formal feedback and reports as required on pupil/student achievement and progress Line management responsibility including the allocation and monitoring of work, holding regular team and supervision meetings with other classroom based support staff in accordance with academy policies. Plan, prepare and deliver learning activities for individuals, groups or whole classes. Record progress and achievement systematically and provide systematically and provide evidence of range and level of progress. Undertake specialist work with individuals/groups of pupils/students for which an additional qualification may be required. Monitor and evaluate pupil responses to learning through a range of assessment and monitoring strategies against pre-determined learning objectives. Support the role of parents/carers in pupils/students learning and contribute to/lead meetings with parents/carers to provide constructive feedback on progress and achievement Lead for the whole school in specialist area and share expertise and skills with others Organise and manage appropriate learning environment and resources. Within an agreed system of supervision, plan challenging teaching and learning objectives to evaluate and adjust lessons/work plans as appropriate. Administer and assess/mark tests and invigilate exams/tests. Use ICT to support learning activities and develop pupils competence and independence in its use. Select and prepare resources necessary to lead learning activities, taking account of pupils/students interests, language and cultural backgrounds. Advise on appropriate deployment and use of specialist aids/resources/equipment Deliver out of school learning activities within guidelines established by the academy. Contribute to the identification and execution of appropriate out of school learning activities, which consolidate and extend work carried out in class. Contribute to the development of policies and procedures Manage liaison with feeder schools and other relevant bodies to gather pupil/student information. Liaise with external agencies on a regular basis General Contribute to the overall ethos/aims of the academy Participate in training, other learning activities and performance development as required. Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
