We are seeking a talented individual to become part of a Team within the Strategic Housing Service. The successful candidate will help deliver an exciting project to provide new affordable homes on sites across the Borough.
This will help the Council to deliver our regeneration and growth plans, strengthen the local employment base, and attract a wide variety of businesses, not only to provide jobs and accommodation for local people but also to draw in new households from outside the area by building aspirational housing.
The role will offer variety and an opportunity for the right candidate to make their mark within a diverse and fast-paced environment. Cheshire West and Chester features a rich and varied landscape, with a wide range of urban and rural communities including the main centres of Chester, Ellesmere Port, Northwich, and Winsford. The Strategic Housing Programme Team is a small, friendly, supportive group who work closely together to develop innovative mechanisms to deliver homes of the right type, quality, and cost in the right locations, in line with the current and future needs of the population, to ensure West Cheshire remains an attractive location to live and help ease affordability pressures.
Your main responsibilities will be to assess housing need and demand and develop affordable housing policy to guide both the Council's direct housing delivery programme and residential planning permissions. You will be required to research modern methods of construction, low-cost home ownership, custom and self-build, community-led housing, and urban regeneration to develop appropriate housing delivery mechanisms, to expand the housing offer in the borough in a difficult financial climate, whilst helping to reduce our carbon footprint.
With excellent customer service skills, you will also be required to liaise extensively with partners from Housing Associations, developers, Government Departments, estate agents, and households seeking affordable housing. Educated to at least degree level, you will preferably have some experience of working in the field of housing, planning, or regeneration. In return, we will provide training and support, and our innovative ways of working offer high levels of trust and autonomy to make decisions and manage your own workload.
This is a hybrid working role. The Council provides a pleasant working environment in brand new offices in Ellesmere Port and is committed to flexible and mobile working, ensuring employees are equipped to work from home and promoting a good work/life balance. We also operate a flexi-time system with the opportunity to accrue additional leave.
