Senior Legal Counsel role with renowned global energy company based in Westhill. The job involves providing commercially focused legal advice, particularly in offshore/EPCI contract negotiations internationally. This is an ideal position for experienced lawyers with UK energy sector expertise, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to work autonomously.
Overview:
* Applications are invited from Commercial Lawyers with demonstrable experience in the UK energy sector, including offshore/EPCI contract negotiation skills.
* The position of Senior Legal Counsel is a staff position. Applicants must be available to work from the Westhill, Aberdeen office.
* To provide pragmatic, commercially-focused legal advice to the UK, Canadian and Caspian oil and gas business with a high degree of autonomy, in a supportive environment. Principally supporting tendering activities on a day to day basis, duties will include assessment of risk, contract review/negotiation, legal advice and support to various departments on a range of topics.
Main duties and responsibilities:
* Being responsible for a given group of clients/region on an autonomous basis.
* Actively working with Tender Managers to develop effective contractual/negotiation strategies for each tender and type of work.
* Reviewing and qualifying contract terms contained within prospective clients’ invitations to tender (in partnership with the relevant Tender Manager), and attending client negotiations.
* Working with Tender Managers to develop and make recommendations to senior management and seek appropriate approvals as necessary.
* As a senior member of the Legal Team, contributing to the development and delivery of the team’s strategy and objectives.
* Providing guidance to Contracts Department, supply chain and project personnel on contractual wording/risk mitigation and advising on contractual interpretation.
* Drafting and reviewing general legal agreements including confidentiality agreements, mutual hold harmless agreements, parent company guarantees, memorandum of understanding, pre-bid agreements, co-operation agreements.
* Providing compliance advice, including an active role in client and supplier due diligence.
* Supporting various internal service providers, including delivering training to other departments.
Applicants to this role require:
* Fully qualified Commercial lawyer (UK qualifications preferred).
* Relevant in-house experience of the UK energy sector.
* Strong ability to place contractual risks in their true practical and commercial perspective.
* Significant experience of reviewing, negotiating and advising on offshore industry contracts, particularly EPCI negotiation.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, builds strong collaborative relationships.
* Demonstrates credibility and professionalism, operates with the highest standards of integrity, preserving confidentiality at all times.
* Demonstrates initiative and ownership to work autonomously, while able to work collaboratively with team members and key stakeholders.
* Excellent planning skills, accustomed to meeting multiple and competing deadlines.
