DescriptionWalsall Council is seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner AMHP to join our Mental Health Hub. Working on a rota that includes some out-of-hours and weekend cover, you will lead and undertake Mental Health Act (MHA) assessments, provide expert advice across the service and champion least-restrictive, anti-discriminatory practice. * Act as Lead AMHP for MHA?1983 assessments, ensuring legal compliance and the highest professional standards.
* Provide clinical leadership, mentoring and supervision to AMHP colleagues and wider MDT staff.
* Contribute to the 24/7 rota (including evenings and weekends) for urgent MHA assessments.
* Maintain accurate records on Mosaic and produce clear, timely statutory reports.
* Liaise with health partners, police, legal services and Approved Clinicians to coordinate safe, person-centred outcomes.
* Promote awareness of the power dynamics and potential discrimination within MHA practice; drive continuous service improvement.
Requirements
* Qualified Social Worker / Nurse / OT or Psychologist with current professional registration.
* Approved Mental Health Professional status with a minimum of three years’ post-qualification AMHP experience.
* In-depth knowledge of the MHA?1983/2007, MCA?2005, Human Rights Act and related case law.
* Familiarity with Mosaic (or similar case-management system) desirable.
* Ability to work autonomously, manage complex risk and make sound decisions under pressure.
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential).
