About The Role
Our Singing for the Brain sessions offer people affected by dementia a chance to enjoy a fun activity within a supportive environment, and we need your help to make this happen!
Singing for the Brain is a structured group session based on music therapy and singing principles, designed for people with dementia who may attend alone or with a carer. These uplifting sessions provide an enjoyable activity and an opportunity for socialising with others affected by dementia.
As a Singing for the Brain Support Volunteer, you’ll welcome and converse with people with dementia, helping them feel comfortable. During the session, you’ll encourage participation and assist the session facilitator with activities, either online or in person.
You’ll be great for the role if:
* You are interested in building meaningful relationships and making a difference.
* You want to help people with dementia find their voice through music in a rewarding role.
* You are fun and enthusiastic.
* You can listen with compassion.
* If supporting virtual sessions, you are comfortable navigating online platforms and using Zoom confidently.
* Experience of dementia or singing is not required!
Additional qualities include being reliable, punctual, able to work efficiently, physically capable of moving furniture, and willing to attend training. The group meets biweekly on Fridays at The Fitzwilliams Centre, Windsor End, Beaconsfield HP9 2JW, from 9:30 am to 10:00 am and 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm. You will set up and clear the room, creating a welcoming environment for participants.
