Northern Commercials, based in Hildenborough are recruiting for an Apprentice Panel Beater. The role will be to learn and carry out all aspects of identifying what damage has been done on the vehicle, carry out stripping the vehicle down to carry out the repairs of new panels fitted, repair works and welding.
Wage
£14,144 a year
Over time you will be paid at time and half, overtime can only be earnt once over 18 years of age due to work hours restriction.

Monday – Friday 7.30am – 17.00pm, 1 hr for lunch. If you are aged 16-17, the maximum amount of hours you can work is 40 per week.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Some of the key tasks will include but are not limited to:
* Learn all aspects of the body repair workshop
* Learn all H&S and COSSH and safety in the accident repair and workshop environment
* Learn about panel beating, filling and dent repair
* Undertake appropriate job preparation prior to commencing repair, including safety precautions, panel preparation and body measurements
* Remove, repair and replace vehicle body panels and components of the vehicle safely and efficiently
* Using different relevant tools
* Identify the material used in the construction to enable the correct joining techniques and adhere to manufacturer specifications

Course contents
* Ability to undertake appropriate job preparation prior to commencing repair, including safety precautions, panel preparation and body measurements.
* Ability to identify the material used in the construction to enable the correct joining techniques and manufacturer specifications to be adhered to.
* Ability to interpret relevant technical data and methods to make sure that any joints are in line with vehicle manufacturer specification and the vehicle/body panels are aligned correctly
* Ability to identify and understand the correct joining technology, e.g. when to use resistance spot welding or mig brazing or bonding.
* Ability to remove, repair and replace vehicle body panels and components of the vehicle safely and efficiently
* Ability to identify and operate the correct repair tools, equipment and devices used in the process, panel pulling systems, jig and alignment tools, spot welders, brazing tools.
* Ability to identify and communicate supplementary damage such as panels that were deemed to be reparable but once worked on were found to be beyond repair along with damage that could not be established on original inspection.
* Ability to detect and rectify faults within a vehicles structure that’s integral to its safety
Your training plan
You will be completing the Level 3 Vehicle Damage Panel Technician apprenticeship. At the end of the apprenticeship, you will gain a grade Pass or Distinction.
If you don’t have a Level 2 maths and English qualification you will complete Functional Skills in maths and English. You will complete these qualifications alongside your day in college.
Day-release will be at the Eastbourne campus, once a week, term time only. An assessor will visit you every 10-12 weeks onsite. Please ensure you can travel to this location in East Sussex before applying.

-On occasions you may be required to work outside. -You will be lifting heavy items -You will be working with full face coverings on certain jobs. -Once a week you will be required to attend East Sussex College’s Eastbourne campus, located in Hampden Park. The campus is a 10-minute walk from the train station. Before the apprenticeship begins you will be required to come to the college for a face-to-face induction session. This will include a maths and English assessment, which will be important if you don’t have a Level 2 maths and English qualification. -The apprenticeship may start before the closing date.
