About BEAR Scotland
BEAR Scotland is a trusted alliance between three renowned companies - Vinci, Jacobs, and Breedon. Together, they manage two of Scotland’s four Trunk Road Maintenance Contracts (South-East & North-West) for Transport Scotland. In addition, BEAR Scotland leads two major DBFO contracts: M80 Stepps - Haggs and A92 Dundee - Arbroath.
The Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen within BEAR Scotland for a Civil Engineer to work in our South Queensferry office. The role would involve working within a diverse team on the investigation, procurement, construction and project management of geotechnical-related projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Compliance with technical standards following the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.
2. Review of reports, investigations, feasibility studies and options assessments.
3. Work as part of a team within NW Minor Improvements and with other BEAR departments.
4. Work closely with BEAR’s consultant, Jacobs UK.
5. Work with commercial specialists to complete tender evaluations and assist with contract awards.
6. Procure, supervise and measure geotechnical-related works.
7. Work with Environmental specialists to ensure adequate environmental screening is undertaken and appropriate mitigation measures are implemented before work commences.
8. Follow Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures that form part of the company’s Integrated management systems.
9. Assist in the team’s compliance with the CDM Regulations and ensure that robust risk assessments are carried out before works, operations or inspections take place.
10. Use Transport Scotland’s asset management systems and geographical inventory system to keep inventory data and as-built records up to date.
11. Prepare cost estimates and monitor the internal financial performance of individual schemes.
12. Assist Graduate Engineers and Technicians within the team.
13. Deliver projects within an annual programme of work.
14. Provide timely responses to third-party correspondence.
Your Skills and Experience
1. Experience in geotechnical related projects.
2. Professional qualification and membership of an appropriate professional body or a clear path to membership.
3. A full approved UK driving licence.
4. Clear communicator.
5. Use of Microsoft Office suite of software packages is essential.
6. Use of AutoCAD software is desirable.
