Main duties of the job

To assist in the provision of anefficient radiology service.
To work as part of a professionalradiography team providing a high quality diagnostic service.
To maintain a sensitive and courteousapproach to patients.
To develop and improve professionalexpertise via continuous professional development (CPD).
Key stakeholders
Thepostholder will work under the jurisdiction of the relevant modality/area leador act as the lead with supervisory responsibility for the band 6 & 5 Radiographers plus any students in that area.They will be expected to liaise with the admin & clerical in addition toportering staff of the area concerned. They will also be expected to liaisewith the relevant clinical, administrative and nursing staff for the servicesthe area is covering.

Job responsibilities
1.Key areas of responsibility
CLINICAL
Tocarry out radiographic examinations across a range of modalities to the agreedstandard of the department.
Tomaintain a high standard of patient care and comfort and be patient focused atall times.
Towork in an efficient and effective manner at all times.
Toappear on duty promptly and appropriately dressed and behave in a professionalmanner at all times.
Toplan, prioritise and organise own workload.
Tovet request forms for validity and appropriateness.
Todetermine whether repeat X-rays or extra projections are required.
Toundertake IV injections in line with departmental policy.
Toreport any untoward incidents and equipment failure to the area superintendentradiographer.
Towork unsupervised as and when required.
Towork using own initiative but be aware own limitations and seek guidance whennecessary.
Towork flexibly based on requirements of service.
Tocarry out duties which may be considered necessary and consistent with theresponsibilities of the post.
COMMUNICATION
To liaise and communicate effectively withother staff both within and external to the department regarding patient careand ensure that effective communication is implemented and maintained.
To keep accurate records of patientexaminations in line with departmental protocols.
To be familiar with the RIS departmentalsystem and to ensure all examinations have been entered onto the system andpost entered.
4.General responsibilities
MANAGEMENT
Tobe actively involved in the department audit and quality assurance programme.
Todeputise for more senior radiographers as and when required.
Tosupervise junior members of staff and help expand their knowledge and skills.
4. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
To undertake any formal or informaltraining required to fulfil the needs of the post.
To expand and update your own technicaland professional skills.
To assist in the clinical instructionand assessment of student radiographers.
To participate in the departmentalappraisal system.
To supervise other staff undertaking IVinjections
To participate in and fully contributeto departmental and professional activities.
To undertake all mandatory training inline with Trust and Department policies including Manual Handling, InfectionControl and Trust Statutory Study Day.
To undertake continuous professionaldevelopment in line with College ofRadiographers and Health Professions Council guidelines.
5. OTHER DUTIES
Toparticipate in the departmental out of hours rotation including weekend,evening and night shifts. Once the agenda for change 7 day working week is implementedwithin the department to take part in this shift system
Toobserve the Code of Practice for the use of Ionising Radiations and theIR(ME)R regulations.
Tobe aware of and adhere to Trust, Directorate and Department policies.

Essential
1. EXPEIRENCE
2. Up to date knowledge of general imaging techniques
3. 18 months experience of working at a Band 6 Senior Radiographer level.
4. Able to work unsupervised
5. Awareness of clinical governance issue in relation to patient care
6. Understanding of factors affecting service throughput and quality
7. Extensive recent NHS experience
8. Extensive CT experience including Contrast CT Studies
9. Evidence of supervisory experience
Desirable
10. (DESIRABLE)
11. Previous experience as a Band 7 Senior Radiographer
12. Recent IR or MRI experience
Qualifications
Essential
13. BSc(Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
14. Health Professions Council Registration
15. Commitment to continuous professional development.
16. College of Radiographers accredited IV cannulation course or equivalent

18. Post graduate modules in topics relevant to post
