Job Title: Events Manager (Maternity Cover)
Reports to: Commercial and Events Manager
Responsible for: Marketing and Events Coordinator, Casual staff, Volunteers
Key Relationships: Trinity Room Staff, Caretaking Team, Volunteer Manager, Vicar, Heritage Manager, Churchwardens, Parish Administrator, Finance Coordinator, Hull creative and Events scene.
Salary: £28,000 per annum
Hours of work: Full time 37.5 hours per week, days and times to vary around events (evening and weekends required). At busy times, it may be required that you work additional hours and these will be returned as time off in lieu.
Overview:
Hull Minster is situated at the heart of Hull, a place to worship, explore, enjoy & belong. Built in 1285, Holy Trinity Parish Church was re-designated as a Minster in 2017 to play a pivotal role in Hull City of Culture. The building is now open six days per week, hosting arts and cultural events, heritage activities and open days, civic events, community activities & services.
Purpose:
Events at Hull Minster are the central driver of our operational income, allowing the Minster to open its doors to the public and continue its mission and community work. The purpose of the role is to oversee an annual programme of events to grow this income in line with the ethos and purpose of the Minster as a place of Christian Worship and witness. You will work closely and collaboratively across the whole organisation and city’s creative and cultural sector to manage the complex needs of our multi-functioning site.
Key Objectives:
You will be responsible for all coordination, marketing, planning and delivery of our event activities, including the many concerts, conferences, markets, and functions we hold throughout the year. Under the management of the Commercial and Events Manager, you will lead on existing client bookings and ensure a robust programme of events alongside activities in our cafe and shop.
Responsibilities:
* Liaising with clients on bookings, developing new relationships for potential future events and ensuring a high standard for our existing events.
* Implementing a marketing plan, which promotes the unique setting and features that Hull Minster offers.
* Oversee an annual programme of activities and events at Hull Minster, working where appropriate in partnership with Hull City Council and other key partners in the City and region.
* Facilitating client site visits, promoting our venues and range of options for their events.
* Providing quotations - room hire, technical packages, equipment hire in, catering etc. Always establishing a strong understanding of the economics of the event from the Minster’s and the client's perspective.
* Working with existing and new clients to plan their events, and with our staff and volunteers and external caterers, including preparation of briefing sheets, room layouts etc.
* Working with clients, you will oversee the delivery of their events, ensuring they run smoothly and efficiently from start to finish, through both front of house and back of house operations.
* Working with the volunteer manager to oversee staff and volunteer planning, briefing and communications.
* Managing the Marketing and Events Coordinator, casual staff and volunteers relating to events.
* Contracting, invoicing, and ensuring all required documentation for any event is in place.
* Liaising with the parish administrator and clergy in maintaining the Minster diary, including awareness of shared space use and conflicting organisational demands.
* Any other reasonably requested tasks.
Terms and Conditions:
* The post is conditional on appropriate DBS clearance and character references.
* The appointment is subject to a six-month probationary period.
* Able to prove the right to work in the UK.

Experience:
* A good track record in a commercial venue. – Essential
* Experience of events management – Essential
* Experience of working in a multi-use space or with multiple venues simultaneously – Essential
* Experience in charity, arts and volunteer organisations - Desirable
* Experience in the catering and hospitality sector - Desirable
* Experience of working with a team of paid staff and volunteers – Desirable
Skills:
* Sound communication skills – Essential
* Strong IT skills – Essential
* Ability to manage a busy, evolving diary - Essential
* Good standards of literacy and numeracy - Essential
* Good working knowledge of sound desk and AV equipment - Desirable
