Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge? Do you want the opportunity to achieve a NVQ 2 Level 2 in Pharmacy Services? Do you have the essential GCSEs in Mathematics and English at grade C/level 4 or above or equivalent? (Proof of equivalence required).
Then we may have the job for you. Whilst dispensing experience is preferable it is not essential, willingness to undergo training and be flexible in the workplace is.
Working as part of a team you will play an integral part in the supply of medicines to patients who use our hospital services.
Main duties of the job
Working within a busy department you will need good communication skills to work with your team and service users. You must be able to present yourself in a professional manner and work to our trust values.
Accuracy and attention to detail is essential as you will be involved in the supply of medicines. You will need to be able to prioritise and adapt to the needs of the service throughout the day. To ensure as a member of the pharmacy department you deliver a cost effective and high quality service.
If you do not already have a Level 2 Pharmacy qualification, you will be needed to complete this training as required by the General Pharmaceutical Council.
You will be required to participate in weekend, late night and bank holiday rotas.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key Responsibilities/Duties:
1. Dispense and issue medicines from the Pharmacy Department including extemporaneously prepared products, controlled drugs, unlicensed medicines, in accordance with the policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
2. Order and supply pharmaceuticals as part of the ward stock top-up service.
3. Load medicines received into the automated dispensing machine.
4. Answer basic reception queries within area of competence and refer to senior assistant / other pharmacy staff member as required.
5. Input data into the Pharmacy computer system to ensure that all appropriate records are made and kept up to date.
6. Receive medicines into the Pharmacy Department and ensure that the documentation and computer entry is carried out in a timely and accurate manner.
7. Investigate and resolve delivery discrepancies, liaising with invoicing staff, making appropriate records of all investigations and outcomes.
8. Ensure that all pharmaceutical preparations are stored appropriately.
9. Rotate stock at the point of good receipt.
10. Deal with routine enquiries.
11. Ensure that all unused medicines (if appropriate) returned to the pharmacy are recycled in accordance with the safe systems of work.
12. Participate in daily stock count.
13. Issue medicines which are on “To-Follows” list.
14. Participate in development and project work in line with the objectives of the Trust and Pharmacy Directorate.
15. Deal with ad hoc stock requests as they arise from wards/departments and outside clinics.
16. Supply emergency orders.
17. Work across site where required.
18. Adapt to changes that may occur within the Pharmacy Department.
Person specification
Qualifications
* GCSE grade C/4 or above (must include Maths and English) or equivalent such as functional skills.
Experience
* Experience working in Healthcare Environment.
* Experience of stock rotation.
* Experience of working in stores and distribution.
Skills
* Methodical with attention to detail.
