Bank Specimen Reception Medical Laboratory Assistant

We are looking to recruit a number of Band 2 Bank Specimen Reception Medical Laboratory Assistants to support the Specimen Reception Service in providing an effective sample reception and distribution for the Pathology Laboratory.
Candidates must be prepared to work flexibly including participation in a shift pattern which includes early, late, weekend, Bank Holiday and other out of hours rotas as required.
Main duties of the job
The post will be based at Leighton Hospital or Macclesfield Hospital to be registered on UHNM Pathology Bank. This is a zero hours, bank position to cover as and when required.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Experience and/or qualifications in NHS Specimen Reception Laboratory
* Knowledge and experience of healthcare science duties to NVQ level 3 (2 A levels) plus additional theoretical or applied
Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
* Ability to prioritise workload in response to service need
* Excellent written and communication skills
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with situations in a sensitive manner
* Experience of Data Entry
* Numerate and literate, able to handle numbers accurately, without error
* Excellent keyboard skills and attention to detail
* Ability to use emails and passwords to log in to different IT systems
* Ability to complete online learning modules
* Ability to effectively apply skills and knowledge
* Ability to work within safe systems of work and report any deficiencies in those systems to the Departmental Manager
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and work to deadlines
* Ability to concentrate for long periods
* Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, face to face, by phone and in writing with all levels of staff
* Able to utilise initiative to solve problems and develop the service
Personal Qualities
* To participate in a shift pattern if required to do so by the relevant department.
* Prepared to work flexibly including participating in weekend and other out of hours rotas as necessary.
* Ability and willingness to fulfil the travel requirements of the post if relevant - primary place of work as per JD but on rare occasion may reasonably be asked to work at another site where the Trust has responsibility for Pathology services.
* Acts to support and enable effective teamwork.
