Description Closing date: 02 February 2025 23:59 Salary: £31,296 - £35,526 Grade: 5 Counter Terrorism Policing is at the forefront of helping to protect the UK from terrorist attacks. This role is based in our modern offices near to the Birmingham International Airport. You’ll work Monday to Friday, between the core hours of 0700 – 1600 but an element of flexibility is necessary to meet operational requirements. The role As a Prevent Support/Case Officer, you’ll reassure vulnerable groups, potentially impacting the underlying causes of terrorism and diminishing support for terrorists. You’ll drive and deliver the Prevent agenda across the wider policing family, facilitating engagement with policing teams, partner organisations and communities. You’ll be responsible for case management enquiries, conducting vulnerability assessments, de-briefing interviews and delivery of case management tactics, as well as delivering sensitive briefings and presentations internally and externally. You’ll have the skills and motivation to be part of an evolving, dedicated team serving diverse communities. Prior experience of safeguarding is therefore advantageous. Role responsibilities Working collaboratively with Prevent partners in local authorities, schools, higher and further educational institutions, faith institutions and organisations, the health sector, the prison and probation service. Gathering and disseminating information including community tensions relating to CT issues, developing plans and identifying joint actions to address any issues. Acting in support of frontline staff and as a community contact on consequence management issues. Working with police and community partners to develop and deliver proactive communications in advance of terrorism-related operations. Providing tactical advice to CT Senior Investigating Officer’s on Prevent options and capability. Engaging and signposting individuals vulnerable to radicalisation into appropriate support mechanisms, such as Channel. Identifying community intervention providers who can provide advice and support to individuals vulnerable to radicalisation. Conducting individual Risk Assessments to determine Susceptibility to Radicalisation in line with National processes Working with Corporate Communications, the SIO, stakeholders and partners to deliver key messages of Consequence Management plans. Skills and competencies Essential Good understanding of the Prevent strategy. Experience and understanding of Partnership Working. Excellent influential and diplomatic communication skills. Highest standards of discretion and sensitivity when handling information on community security, issues and intelligence. Good organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. Excellent written skills, including the ability to write concise, detailed and accurate reports. Effective IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook. Ability to prepare and confidently deliver sensitive and emotive presentations. Desirable Experience of safeguarding work. Evidence of decision making skills involving risk and vulnerability. Additional information You’ll need a full, clean, driving licence as you may be required to travel across the region. Security Clearance ⚠ This role is subject to successful completion of Security Check vetting. You must be a citizen of one of the following countries to work for Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands (CTPWM). The UK (including Northern Ireland), USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand. If you hold dual nationality, with one of those being British, you may also be considered. For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants will be required to hold or acquire the appropriate national security vetting clearance as above, in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002).
