We provide round-the-clock care for children and young people and require Practitioners to work a variety of shifts. This is predominantly a night-working role; however, it also includes working days and weekends.
Main duties of the job
We need highly motivated, resilient, and positive team members with humour, tenacity, and empathy to help children and young people flourish and reach their full potential. We value your life experiences, energy, personal strength, and positive mental attitude.
Following a thorough induction and training programme, your duties will include:
1. Supporting and providing meaningful day-to-day activities to help children and young people develop their emotional and social needs by building positive relationships.
2. Developing personal and practical skills to enhance young people's independence skills.
3. Ensuring that children's and young people's diverse communication needs are met, ascertaining their views and wishes, and acting upon these where appropriate.
4. Reporting and recording key aspects of care and developing your professional skills as part of ongoing development.
5. Managing complex behaviours that can be challenging.
6. Providing personal intimate care and/or nursing care support to holistically support children and young people, depending on their needs.
7. Working in collaboration and directly with families and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people.
You will hold or be willing to work towards the Level 3 Diploma for Residential Child Care (paid for).

Job responsibilities
1. Contributing to young people's care plans, risk assessments, and health care plans, including their review and implementation.
2. Forming effective relationships with young people and their families to ensure that a caring environment is maintained, and their emotional, physical, medical, and social needs are met.
3. Ensuring that safe care standards are met and opportunities for their development are maximized, including providing hands-on direct care, including intimate personal care.
4. Ensuring that disabled children's and young people's diverse communication needs are adhered to, ascertaining their views and wishes, and acting upon these where appropriate.
Person Specification
Experience
* Ability to form effective relationships with children and act as a positive role model.
* Good level of applied literacy and numeracy.
* A minimum of 12 months experience of childcare work.
* Understanding the signs of safety approach or willingness to undertake the training.
* Understanding of childcare law.
* Knowledge of child protection and disability issues.
* Knowledge of augmented communication systems.
Qualifications
* Ability to attain a NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care within 18 months of appointment.
* Willingness to undertake relevant training courses.
* Good standard of educational achievement - 5 GCSE passes or above or equivalent qualifications.
