The Vacancy
The Operational Risk Analyst provides advice and assurance of the risk & control frameworks managed by the 1st line of defence and contributes to independent risk reporting to Senior Management.
Key Responsibilities
Operational/Non-Financial Risk is part of Winterflood Risk, which sits within the 2nd line of defence.
Risk Assessment
1. Direct, review & challenge performance of the Risk & Control Self-Assessment by the 1st line
2. Oversee the Company's risk register(s), key risk indicators and operational loss events including review of loss events for operational weakness via root cause analysis and make recommendations to reduce or mitigate risks identified
Risk Assurance
1. Assess the effectiveness of the businesses control environment and adherence to policies & procedures through risk assurance reviews and control assurance testing
2. Review & challenge business & support functions processes and controls
Risk Governance
1. Maintain Operational Risk policy/procedures, model & end user computing tools inventories
2. Produce Operational Risk management information for the Winterflood Risk & Compliance committee, highlighting material topics/key themes requiring escalation
3. Propose enhancements to the metrics for the reporting of Operational Risk
4. Respond to ad-hoc queries from internal and external stakeholders relating to Operational Risk
Risk Advisory
1. Provide ad-hoc support to the 1st line of operational risk topics where appropriate
2. Engage and assist in key risk projects, such as Operational Resilience, Cyber resilience
3. Remain up to date with regulatory obligations impacting the Company risk appetite and its regulatory responsibilities in respect of operational risk
4. Develop strong positive working relationships with other departments
Company Capital & Liquidity Management
1. Support the delivery of the ICARA to help define Winterflood's capital and liquidity requirements
2. Maintain and update Winterflood's risk appetite statements so that they comply with the latest regulatory changes and meet Group's expectations
3. Drive the return of the necessary inputs from key stakeholders within the necessary time limits for the calculation of operational risk capital
Skills & Experience
Essential
1. 3+ years' experience in Operational / Non-Financial Risk Management within first or second line
2. Experience working in financial services with exposure to trading, technology or operations
3. Strong interpersonal skills, able to engage with a variety of stakeholders
4. Curious and proactive mind-set and understand the 'why'; not afraid to question and challenge
5. Thrive in getting involved in a wide variety of tasks
Desirable
1. Assurance experience gained through internal audit or controls/process reviews
2. Regulatory knowledge and experience of FCA rules and practical application
3. Good presentation skills and experience producing management information
4. Good Excel / IT skills and competent at working with large volumes of data
5. Experience using a Governance Risk and Control System
