About the business unit
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.
Overview of role
Our Nuclear: Defence and Civil division are recruiting Principal Structural Engineers to join our fast growing team where you’ll have the opportunity to lead and work on a diverse portfolio of exciting projects ranging from defence, nuclear, other energy and infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities:
* Manage all phases of project development, from feasibility and conceptual design to detailed engineering, planning support, construction, and commissioning.
* Lead structural engineering analysis, design, and verification of reinforced concrete and structural steelwork using industry-standard design and analysis software.
* Collaborate on multi-disciplinary projects, coordinating with internal Mott MacDonald engineers and external clients/stakeholders to develop cost-effective infrastructure solutions.
* Prepare detailed specifications and minimum functional requirements for the civil/structural engineering aspects of nuclear projects in English.
* Conduct site visits and attend client offices as required to support project needs.
* Support business development in the defence sector, including preparing bids and identifying new opportunities. Assist in negotiating and applying consultancy contracts, including defining terms, conditions, and scope of services.
* Manage internal project elements, including budgeting, planning, scheduling, and progress monitoring.
* Mentor and support the development of Graduate Structural Engineers.
Requirements:
* Proven experience leading Structural Engineers within a multi-disciplinary team.
* Proficiency in structural design software such as Robot, Tekla Structural Designer, and TEDDS.
* Strong collaboration and communication skills.
* High-level technical expertise in structural engineering.
* Experience in regulated industries (e.g., defence, nuclear) is advantageous but not essential.
* Strong sense of ownership and accountability for your work.
* Commitment to continuous learning and expanding technical knowledge.
* Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional institution.
* Broad experience in structural engineering, covering all design stages through to construction.
