Interim Senior Conservation Officer

Full UK driving licence and access to own car.
Key Requirements:
Knowledge of planning law, policy and procedures relating to heritage.
Experience of working within an LPA planning department/conservation team at senior level for an LA (5years+ experience).
A relevant qualification in Heritage Conservation or related subject and/or experience in the field.
Experience of dealing with heritage in relation to Development Management.
Strong IT skills to support working with packages such as Word, Excel and Access as well as specific IT packages.
As Senior Conservation Officer you will be responsible for providing heritage advice in relation to pre-application discussions and planning applications. The candidate will provide input to the Council’s Local Plan and policies in relation to heritage conservation issues within agreed targets, timescales and priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out surveys and assessments for Listed Building Consent applications and the making of conservation areas.
Respond to enquiries from applicants, agents and developers; advising on planning and related permissions and the procedures to be followed.
Discuss, consult and negotiate on proposals; prepare reports and formulate recommendations on planning applications.
Prepare the Council’s written statements for planning and enforcement appeals or to initiate enforcement action against breaches of planning control in relation to heritage.
Attend public inquiries, informal hearings and/or court proceedings to give evidence on behalf of the Council.
