The Role
Role purpose:
As a result of the proposed sale, the Company needs to run a project to:
1. Assign all the electrical meters and associated tools and systems to the new owner (the Buyer).
2. Novate contracts related to the supply and management of Electrical (and other utilities) to the Buyer.
3. Ensure that once the companies separate, the Buyer site has appropriate utility provisions and is able to manage their utilities going forward.
The Company needs to hire an experienced Electrical Project Engineer to devise and deliver a project that results in the successful assignment of the meters and associated contracts related to the sold sites. Some sites will require the installation of new or replacement fiscal and or sub meters where current ones are faulty.
This role will require the role holder to visit some of the sites. This is not a management position. Whilst there is a Utilities and Engineering team who can provide advice and assistance, the role holder will be expected to deliver this project themselves versus managing a team to do so.
Key Accountabilities:
Project Delivery:
* Successfully manage and deliver the project.
* Ascertain requirements through knowledge transfer from the Utilities team and visiting sites. A key requirement is the ability to determine the actual operational requirement and propose appropriate solutions.
* Liaison with the Company Utilities and Electrical Engineering teams to ensure that the devised project plan is workable and appropriate levels of operational security and full compliance with all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation is met.
* Ensure all design work is completed to agreed programmes, financial budgets, and KPIs.
* Attend internal and external reviews and where applicable progress meetings.
* Maintain a high level of product and technical knowledge in specified areas as necessary to support the project.
Project Governance:
* Provide effective detailed planning, costing, delivery, with associated reporting and handover of the project.
* Proactively manage scope to ensure that only agreed deliverables are delivered and implement effective change management to ensure all changes in scope are tracked and where necessary approved.
* Identify and manage all project risks and issues through the life of a project, mitigating risks where appropriate and escalating as required. Anticipate problems before they happen and find ways to reach project goals under constantly changing circumstances.
* Comply with approved Company project management methodologies. Adopt the use of the approved Company project management system/tool ensuring the validity, completeness, and accuracy of all key milestones throughout the duration of the project.
* Minimise re-work or changes in design and scope throughout the life cycle of the project through effective planning and manage the project inter-relations to ensure cost-effective solutions.
* Maintain a secure working environment in line with the requirements of the Company’s Security Policy in order to protect individuals, information, and Company’s assets.
* Promote the company ethos and culture of health and safety. Implement safe systems of work and actively encourage continuous operational health and safety performance.
Supplier Management:
* Instruct, manage and undertake the auditing of the suppliers throughout the life cycle of the project.
* Manage the quality of works provided by suppliers/contractors and ensure compliance with specifications and Company standards.
* Manage the relationships with suppliers/contractors in liaison with the Company’s Utilities team.
Reporting:
* Manage project plans and programmes from inception to handover and closure and develop and fine-tune delivery processes, workflows, SLAs, and KPIs.
* Provide regular information and feedback as required by senior management with respect to project and programme delivery through the use of agreed project management reporting systems.
Health & Safety Management:
* Assess risk areas, manage and report appropriately.
* Promote an effective Safety, Health and Environment culture, to ensure a safe and healthy working environment within the area of operation.
Role Competencies:
* Ability to create and build working relationships with internal customers and suppliers.
* An aptitude for Electrical engineering project delivery within a high volume rollout environment.
* Able to interpret construction drawings, produce sketches, and identify solutions to problems.
* Experience of generators, un-interruptible power supplies, switchgear and knowledge of basic HV Installations.
* Experience and understanding of key design methodology phases, including requirements definition, designer risk assessments, design reviews, test plans, delivery, and handover.
* An understanding of electrical principles and the ability to apply theory to practice. An ability to undertake electrical test and commissioning measurements using test equipment.
* An understanding of working with Distribution Network Operators (DNO) to prove new infrastructure for connection agreements.
* An advocate of using method statements, risk assessments, and switching statements for enabling work sequences.
* A proactive self-starter who is able to analyse problems and make commercially informed judgements.
* A methodical approach to work and the ability to pay attention to detail is essential.
* Experience in managing projects in accordance with current UK health and safety legislation.
* Current UK driving licence.
Skills/Experience Required:
* Degree or HND/HNC in Electrical (M&E) Engineering, Building Services or equivalent experience.
* City and Guilds Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Verification of Electrical Installations - C&G 2391.
* APMP or Prince 2 Project management and/or construction-related qualification.
* At least 5 years experience within a large infrastructure rollout.
Reward:
For the candidate that meets all of the requirements, the day rate is negotiable appropriate to the level of expertise required to perform the role. The agreed rate will be inclusive of any travel and accommodation expenses (if working away from home base). Business travel expenses for site visits are reimbursable in line with the Company Expenses Policy.
