Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
Our days run from 8 am - 5.30 pm, with routines varying in accordance with age and stage. A typical day will involve children arriving at 8 am into free play and adult-initiated set-ups based on the children’s interests and next steps. At 9 am, the children will have their morning snack, followed by a morning activity/lesson and outdoor play. They have lunch between 11.30 am - 12 pm. Our younger children then have a rest/sleep. The children then have a mixture of free-play, adult setups and structured lessons throughout the afternoon. Our structured specialist lessons include Forest school, French, Spanish, Music, PE, Drama, and Ballet. Our own team also lead extra-curricular sessions for the children, including yoga, cooking, baking, loose parts, and messy play. At 3.30 pm, they have an afternoon tea and then start to leave to go home. We are based in over 100 acres with plenty of opportunities and spaces for varied outdoor activities across the site.
Duties will include:
* Support children's learning and development through applying knowledge of pedagogy and the observation, assessment, and planning cycle
* Develop secure and supportive relationships with children and families as the key person for children in their care
* Provide respectful and responsive physical and emotional care to children, promoting health and wellbeing
* Work with key individuals in children’s lives (for example, parents, families, and carers) to improve all children’s outcomes and wellbeing
* Follow child protection and safeguarding legislation, policies, and procedures
* Work in ways that promote and support equality, diversity, and the inclusion of all children, respecting their social and cultural context
* Follow health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures
* Use technology to record and update information, for example observations, assessments, reports, risk assessments, and safeguarding concerns
* Promote and engage in children’s play. Support all children to create and adapt the environment to reflect their interests and enable their learning and development
We are a very close-knit, dedicated team where all of our staff are very much viewed as equal, despite differing levels of experience/qualification. We would really like our apprentices to do everything that our qualified staff do, including personal care routines, supporting children’s learning and development, having key children, creating activities & learning opportunities, working closely with teams to provide stimulating and exciting provision for all children.
