PRACTICE NURSE MATERNITY COVER NOVEMBER 2024 – SEPTEMBER 2025
25 HOURS PER WEEK
Responsible to: THE PARTNERS (Clinically), THE PRACTICE MANAGER (Administratively)
Purpose of Job
To assist medical personnel in the care of practice patients, including treatment, preventative care, screening, and patient education.
Main Responsibilities
1. Assessment, screening, treatment services, and health education advice.
2. Supplies and equipment – treatment room and other areas.
3. Pathological specimens and investigatory procedures.
4. Administrative and professional responsibilities.
5. Liaison.
6. Professional development.
7. Management of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in accordance with the latest guidelines.
8. Infection Protection Control Lead.
9. Proven respiratory practice and experience would be an additional benefit to this role.
10. Other duties as requested by the Partners or the Practice Manager.
Key Responsibilities Include:
1. Organise and co-ordinate the provision of nursing services for the practice as appropriate.
2. Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols.
3. Provide general and specific health screenings to the practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary.
4. Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments with referral to GPs as necessary.
5. Provide vaccinations as necessary.
6. Blood pressure monitoring and ECG.
7. Ensure the maintenance of equipment and stock levels relating to patient care.
8. Implement Health and Safety policies and procedures.
9. Undertake the collection, storage, and despatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears, etc.
10. Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team, including accurate documentation and attendance at practice meetings.
11. Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care.
12. Maintain continued education by attending courses and study days as deemed useful or necessary for professional development.
Minimum Requirements:
* Registered General Nurse.
* Membership of a professional body.
* To work in accordance with the UKCC Code of Conduct.
* Ability to self-motivate, organise, and prioritise workloads.
* Excellent communication skills.
