About The Role
With our most recent acquisition of a number of stores in the Channel Islands, we’re embarking on an exciting journey to bring our commitment to quality, value, and local sourcing to new communities. Are you ready to shape a customer-led product range in the Channel Islands? As our Local Buying Manager, you will lead the charge in curating a diverse and competitively priced selection that meets our customers' needs and exceeds their expectations.
In this dynamic role, you’ll have the opportunity to source and secure the best local products, from fresh produce to beloved global brands. By negotiating directly with local suppliers, you’ll support our community’s unique tastes and preferences while maximising sales and margins. Whether it’s building exclusive own-brand offerings or securing high-value products, you’ll make a genuine impact on local shopping experiences.
As a vital member of our Buying team, you’ll work closely with colleagues across the business, transforming customer insights into standout product selections that resonate with the local community. If you’re passionate about buying local, engaging with customers, and championing products that deliver value, quality, and excitement, this role is for you.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Building Strong Supplier Relationships: Partner closely with local suppliers to expand our unique product range, understand their offerings, and bring fresh, local products to our stores that resonate with our customers.
* Boost Local Brand Presence: Collaborate with suppliers to enhance brand visibility, drive promotions, and secure prime in-store placements that increase sales and customer loyalty.
* Engage Directly with Customers: Work alongside the Operations Director to listen and respond to customer feedback in stores, constantly seeking ways to elevate satisfaction and experience.
* Shape Community-Focused Ranges: Leverage local insights and market understanding to craft product ranges that reflect the tastes and needs of the Channel Islands, ensuring we stand out from competitors.
* Drive Sales and Profit: Use customer insights to build compelling product propositions that increase sales, improve margins, and bring unique, locally loved products to the wider Morrisons network.
* Optimise Inventory Management: Maintain efficient stock levels, reduce waste, and ensure our customers always find what they need on our shelves.
About The Company
At Morrisons, we're the single biggest food manufacturer in the UK, and the only retailer to operate our own processing sites. Which means we're not just responsible for keeping our shelves stocked - we need to stock our manufacturing sites, too.
As a true one-of-a-kind business, we curate, arrange and buy everything from raw materials like flour and meat to the products our customers pop in for every day. We negotiate prices and make sure we're able to sell as much as we can. We look at product packaging and quality to help us decide where products will sit in our stores. And when you remember that each category is worth a percentage of our overall £12billion turnover from supermarket sales alone, the impact of each buying team is huge.
We work in embedded business teams, so our Buyers sit with their supply chain, finance and technical counterparts, working alongside each other to make decisions and take action quickly. We even have joint targets so that we're unified in our mission to serve our customers.
About You
This is a great role for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment and brings both strategic insight and a passion for delivering outstanding product experiences for customers.
* Proven Buying Experience: Success as a Buying Manager with effective strategies in competitive markets.
* Skilled Negotiator: Strong at building commercial relationships and securing favourable terms.
* Customer-Centric: Prioritizes customer insights to enhance product offerings and satisfaction.
* Analytical & Commercial Savvy: Solid understanding of supply chains, promotions, and market trends.
* Product Knowledge: In-depth expertise in product quality and market demands.
* Collaborative Influence: Works well with cross-functional teams to achieve shared goals.
* Agility & Drive: Thrives in fast-paced, flexible environments.
* Strategic Execution: Can create and deliver plans that meet market, customer, and compliance needs.
