This is the opportunity to cover maternity leave as an Enhanced Practitioner Team Lead in the Radiotherapy treatment section of the department, managing a treatment machine and a team of radiographers. You will undertake the daily operation and lead in the organisation with regard to patient treatment needs and workload. Demonstrate evidence of significant clinical leadership within radiotherapy and be regarded as an expert with regard to patient treatment delivery. In addition, you will assist in the theoretical and practical instruction of junior staff and students.
Gloucestershire Oncology Centre has a progressive Radiotherapy department with state-of-the-art machines delivering IMRT, Arcing, and SABR techniques with adaptive therapy. We have a superficial unit and also deliver Brachytherapy.
The department is involved in numerous National research Trials and has research Radiographers. We also have Consultant Radiographers in both Breast and Prostate Cancer. We treat approximately 3700 patients/year.
The department prides itself on a very high standard of patient care and is currently developing a Late Effects Service to extend this care beyond initial treatment.
This is a 1-year fixed term full-time post based in Cheltenham.
Main duties of the job
1. Work as an operator as entitled by IR(ME)R in accordance with Trust policies and Radiotherapy Quality Management System protocols.
2. Be responsible for the running and management of the treatment units on a rotational basis and for the management of the staff within your team. This will include the appraisal, training, and development of junior staff and students.
3. Work as a practitioner for concomitant exposures under IR(ME)R. Be regarded as a role model for others by demonstrating professional behaviours such as punctuality, honesty, consideration of colleagues, kindness, and respect. Demonstrate this high standard of professionalism when representing the department within the Trust or externally.
4. Demonstrate expertise and competency in the delivery of complex radiotherapy treatment and the knowledge required for problem-solving.
5. Use a range of communication skills to provide information and reassurance to cancer patients.
6. Dispense medication under PGD guidelines. Responsible for training junior staff and students.
7. Undertake appraisals of junior staff. Participate in on-call.
About us
The Gloucestershire Oncology Centre provides Radiotherapy services and consultations to patients from Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, and Worcestershire.
The centre is run over two sites with the primary site located in the Oncology Centre of Cheltenham General Hospital and a Satellite site at the County Hospital, Hereford. The department consists of 5 Varian Linear accelerators, a Brachytherapy unit, and a Superficial unit.
The post holder will be based at the Cheltenham site but may be required to work at the Hereford department if required.
The objective of the Oncology Centre and Radiotherapy department is to provide curative and palliative care to patients in a compassionate and professional environment.

To this end, the post holder will have responsibility for delivering an efficient, high quality, safe service for patients.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* BSC in Radiotherapy or equivalent
* Evidence of Masters Level study
* HCPC registration
Experience
* Team leadership experience on a treatment unit
* Significant experience in a Band 6 position or above
* Significant experience with on-treatment IGRT and decision making
* Significant experience of complex radiotherapy and demonstrates high level clinical skills
Knowledge/ Skills
* Ability to communicate well at all levels of the department and Trust.
* Ability to prioritise, organise and work well under pressure.
* Excellent patient care skills.
* Good Team Leadership skills.
