Job Description:
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The shift pattern for this position is 0830-1630 Monday to Friday.
This is an exciting opportunity for band 4 posts within the speciality of Mental Health. We have three posts located at Leverndale Hospital, Gartnavel Royal Hospital and Stobhill Hospital. These would suit someone who already works in healthcare or an exercise setting where your service user/client group have a diverse age range and physical/mental health needs.
The successful candidate will have good communication skills with the ability to work in a team as well as manage their time when working independently. Physiotherapy within Mental Health provides a comprehensive service to adult and older adult sectors helping service users manage their mobility, muscle and joint pain and respiratory problems.
This post will provide a service across adult specialist in-patient areas. You will have opportunities to learn from experienced clinicians in a complex and diverse setting where service development is a key component of quality patient care. Your job will involve having your own individual caseload of patients delegated by the team and include the assessment of suitability for physical activity as well as leading exercise groups and one to one exercise sessions with service users. You will also assist the physiotherapy teams with musculoskeletal rehabilitation programmes and the post will include administration and other responsibilities to ensure the health and safety of service users and staff.
Working hours are normally 0830-1630 but this can be flexible. At the start of the day, each site meets as a team to discuss and plan the day ahead. We discuss the plan for the day as a team - A key part of this is prioritising caseload and any new referrals based on feedback gathered from reports and emails. Electronic patient notes systems are reviewed for any new referrals. A typical day consists of 1-1 sessions and groups.
• Individual sessions can be ward based or off ward at the gym or in the community. There is a large focus on health promotion and encouraging people to access physical activity in their local community to benefit physical and mental health.
• Group sessions can be in the gym or around the local area utilising the green space around the hospital and local parks. We also support volunteer workers within groups.
• Days will vary depending on scheduled groups and 1-1’s but we all meet as a team again at lunch time and at the end of the day.
