An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dedicated and enthusiastic Band 6 Research Nurse to join our team.
The successful candidate will play a leading role in the planning, co-ordination and completion of a portfolio of clinical trials including some early phase trials.
The successful candidate will co-ordinate and oversee academic and commercial clinical trials, working closely with the multidisciplinary team and colleagues in the clinical trials unit to ensure patient safety, accurate data collection, high quality care and adherence to the study protocols, maintaining effective communication and safe working practice within a complex regulatory framework.
Main duties of the job
* Assist in the overall setting up, organisation and running of a clinical trial within the CTU ensuring it is run to ICH-GCP standards within the Research Governance framework and adhering to other related regulations/SOPs.
* Co-ordinate arrangements for patients participating in clinical trials, according to study protocols, and communicate all necessary information to relevant personnel.
* Take day to day responsibility for the management of a portfolio of trials relating to site specific area(s), working in collaboration with the data management team and other members of the CTU team. Ensuring that information is kept up to date and a comprehensive portfolio is maintained as far as possible by working closely with investigators.
* Provide leadership and motivation for staff, facilitate orientation and training programs, ensuring information about studies is available and disseminated as appropriate.
* Professionally accountable for all actions and recognises limitations of the role.
* Assists the Senior Research Nurses in the day-to-day management of the nursing aspects of clinical research, deputises in their absence.
* Assists the CTU manager and senior team in the strategic planning and development of the unit.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
* Recent and substantial experience in Oncology/Haematology
* Recent and substantial experience in Clinical Research
* Knowledge of chemotherapy applied to patient toxicity management
* Proven clinical, organisational and managerial experience/skills
* Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
* Ability to demonstrate clinical expertise and sound knowledge of clinical issues
* Demonstrate an understanding of the research/audit process
Skills and Abilities
* Able to undertake line care & venepuncture or willingness to learn
* Interested in and willingness to take part in ongoing trial teaching programmes
* Possess good IT skills
* Ability to support the senior research nurse and CTU manager in strategic planning and day to day running of the Clinical Trials Unit
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team
* Evidence of organisational skills
* Demonstrate advanced nursing practice; with the ability to give IV medication including chemotherapy or near completion of chemotherapy training.
Qualifications and Training
* Degree/diploma or willingness to undertake
* Evidence of formal ongoing professional development
* Registered Nurse Level 1
* Current NMC Registration
* Formal teaching qualification ENB 237/N14/FLAP or equivalent
