Position: DevOps Engineer,
Reporting to: Head of Platform Engineering, London Market
Location: York - hybrid
The Role
The DevOps Engineer will be a member of a Chapter which includes DevOps Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering & DevSecOps Engineering. You will also be a key member of a Platform Engineering squad which are responsible for the Continuous Improvement over our cloud and on-premises platforms.
Key Responsibilities
1. Create and maintain the pipelines for publishing code to Azure
2. Oversee and coach squads in intra-day deployments mechanisms
3. As part of the chapter drive the DevOps principles and culture across London Market squads
4. With the aid of the chapter, coach and influence engineers to DevOps maturity
5. Oversee and direct the vendor DevOps and Infrastructure resources
6. Create and maintain Azure infrastructure across all environments
7. Propose and implement time-saving initiatives
8. Create and maintain monitoring at all levels (infrastructure, app, data)
9. Monitor issues and availability and ensure the correct escalation path is followed
10. Monitor performance and propose improvements
11. Implement auto-scaling of resources to meet the needs of the moment
12. Collaborate with all London Market Chapters
13. Help to commoditise cloud services where possible
14. Identify engineering limits, bottlenecks and tipping points before they’re reached
Person Specification
Mandatory skillset:
15. Experience of working as an engineer, working on solutions in Azure.
16. Experience with Terraform and Azure Resource Management Templates
17. Experience setting up and working with Azure DevOps pipelines
18. Knowledge of Cloud native, microservices, containerized systems, preferably with Kubernetes
19. To have a strong desire for continuous improvement and an Agile way of working
Ideally in addition:
20. Commercial hands-on software delivery, including either implementation and on-going systems administration experience in a previous role using a variety of technologies, or, build and deployment engineering with modern practices
21. Sound experience in identifying, implementing and maintaining IT solutions / systems in regulated markets / industries
22. Knowledge and understanding of latest trends in DevOps methodologies, processes and tools, as well as emerging solutions and ability to apply them when appropriate
