The Senior Clinical Fellow post in Acute Medicine has been created to support the department in the delivery of both the inpatient and ambulatory patient care pathways. The rolling rota incorporates Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC) and shared shifts on the General Internal Medical Rota (GIM). We are excited to welcome applications for two new positions in the Acute Medicine team.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be committed to delivering clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with the clinical teams and commissioners.
Main duties of the job
The senior clinical fellow will be an integral member of the acute medical team, supporting senior decision making across the clinical areas, ensuring early, effective decision making and care implementation. Providing effective clinical leadership to junior members of the medical team and other healthcare professionals to ensure patients are consistently managed along the emergency care pathway to maintain the highest standards of care.
This post will provide broad experience in acute medical care in both an inpatient and ambulatory setting. The role offers both educational and training opportunities and identical rotas to members of the team in the Royal College of Physicians' approved training posts. This includes the same study leave and budget allowances.
Job responsibilities
The post holders specific responsibilities would be:
* To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team in order to support and help to provide a comprehensive Acute Medicine Service within the Trust
* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
* Assisting with teaching, training and assessment of junior staff and medical students, nursing staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team
* To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
* To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
* Deputise from time to time for absent colleagues, and exceptionally to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances to ensure the safe running of the Department.
Person Specification
Skills and Knowledge
* Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding the role of audit in improving medical practice
* Comprehension of the core philosophy and building blocks of clinical governance
* Experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evidence so as to improve clinical outcomes
* Evidence of organising programmes and teaching medical students and junior doctors
* Willingness to teach all grades of professional multidisciplinary staff
* Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS
* Commitment to multidisciplinary team working & medical education
* Knowledge of risk management
* Evidence of initiating, progressing and concluding research projects with publication
* Organisation of further teaching programmes in medical education
Education and Qualifications
* GMC Registered
* MBBS or equivalent
* Full MRCP (Applicants with MRCP part 1 and 2 written with evidence of recent PACES examination will be considered)
* Advanced Life Support Provider
* Advanced Life Support Instructor
Experience
* Experience of managing acute medical take and acute medical emergencies
* Ability to assess, diagnose and treat acutely sick patients
* Demonstrable skills in clinical procedures: CVP insertion, chest drain insertion etc
* Supervision of junior doctors
