Purposeof the role
To manage a busy and interesting clinical caseload.The appointee will also have the opportunity to take part in leading on keydisease areas (monitoring trends in the Quality and Outcomes Framework,treatment, staff training and prescribing) and assist in developing appropriatehealthcare services for a diverse, patient list.
Closely supported by Billingshurst clinical andmanagement teams the post holder will act as one of the GPs within thepractice working alongside the practice.The role will be at the forefront of delivering an innovative model ofprimary care service provision.
Clinical responsibilities:
In accordance with the practice timetable, asagreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake clinicalsessions. A clinical session is normallyfour hours 10 minutes in duration and will comprise of telephone andface-to-face consultations. Duty/on-call doctor days may vary in structure. Dailyduties may also include home visits, checking and signing repeat prescriptions,actioning test results and letters, medical reports and examinations (Insurance Companies) on behalf of the Practice.The above duties should be performed in a timely manner using BillingshurstMedical protocols.
You will be required to:
Act upon most alerts ( QOF) and reminders during a routineconsultation
Provide all GP services required as part of the GMS contract heldbetween Billingshurst Surgery and the Integrated Care Board (IC/b) includingall core services such as Child Health Surveillance
Respond to medical problems presented by patients, including historytaking, examination, investigation, diagnosis, treatment and referral where appropriate.
Provide appropriate preventative health care and advice.
Provide medical support as required to patients referred by nursingstaff
Provide free certification in line with Schedule 9 of NHS GMSRegulations (1992).
Adhere to the practice prescribing formulary, local and nationalguidelines.
Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presentingproblems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workerswithin the organisation;
Record clear and contemporaneous based consultation notes to agreedstandards;
Collect data for audit purposes;
Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions
Ingeneral the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties andresponsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Other responsibilities with the Practice:
Engaging inappropriate lifelong educational and audit activity in order to maintainclinical competence and performance, including the completion of objectivesagreed by yourself and the practice, in an annual Personal Development Plan.Your Personal Development Plan must be in line with the Practice DevelopmentPlan. Keeping your Mandatory Training up to date.
Activelyparticipating in the training and development of nurses, medical students andGP trainees in the practice.
Supporting thepractice staff and responding to requests for advice and assistance from thepractice reception, dispensary, secretarial and nursing staff.
Support andsupervision of registrars wherever applicable
Attendprescribing, palliative care, clinical and practice meetings.
Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practicepolicies/guidelines, prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, healthand safety, annual QOF Assessment of the Practice.
Meet all tight timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns toensure that the Practice meets quality standards and receives the designatedfunding ( Quarterly Enhanced Services returns, annual QOF audit etc.)
General Duties
Theabove responsibilities will be undertaken upholding the following:
1. To be availableto take over the responsibility of patient care from the Out of Hours serviceon a working day or where applicable maintain responsibility till theappropriate time when the Out of Hours service takes over care in the evening.This will involve working till on a shared rota basis.
2. To continue towork until all clinical tasks have been completed. To make arrangements withothers to cover when planning to leave before the end of the session.
3. To maintain thefinancial security of the organisation by ensuring accurate and efficientresponses to income generation such as reports, dispensed prescriptions, privateforms etc.
4. At all times tobehave in a professional way that encourages quality care and the developmentof a team spirit. 360 degree feedback isused to assess clinicians and you will be required to participate in this.

Flexibility
This job description is not intended to be exhaustive. Thepost-holder will be expected to adopt a flexible attitude towards the dutiesoutlined which may be subject to amendment at any time in consultation with thepost-holder and in line with the needs of the organisation.
The post holder may be required to fulfil otherduties, as agreed with the practice manager to meet the needs of the organisation.

Inaddition to maintaining continued education through attendance at any coursesand/or study days necessary to ensure that professional developmentrequirements are met, the post-holder will participate in any trainingprogramme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, such trainingto include:
Participation in an annual individual performance review at practicelevel and an external annual NHS GP Appraisal includingtaking responsibility for maintaining a record of their own personal and/orprofessional development. Where the payment for the NHS GP appraisal is reimburseddirectly to the practice by the ICB over and beyond the standard contract, thiswill be paid over to the post holder. Where there is no separate and distinctpayment by the ICB, Billingshurst surgery is under no obligation to make aseparate payment. Any time preparing for the appraisal or conducting theappraisal may be taken from the employees annual study leave entitlement, withprior agreement
