Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, reliable and highly motivated individual to join our dedicated team at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire as a Band 2 Assistant.
Shift pattern over a 7-day week (Sun-Sat).
You will be part of a large clinical team, on numerous sites, providing support to a variety of staff groups including Consultants, Nurses, and Sonographers within the General Ultrasound Department. Duties involve assisting with patient care before, during, and after imaging examinations, coordinating the movement of inpatients with porters, cleaning of scan rooms, and stock control.
It is essential that the successful candidate enjoys working with people and has a genuine interest in patient care. You must have excellent communication skills, work well as part of a team, but also have the ability to use your initiative and work individually.
Job responsibilities
Main duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist patients in preparation for, and whilst undergoing, routine and specialised radiographic examinations, establishing and maintaining good communication with patients.
2. Observe and care for patients whilst waiting for examinations and communicate any concerns to trained staff as appropriate.
3. Check patient identification and documentation in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical requests.
4. Assist Radiologists, Sonographers, registrars, and Nurses in performing these examinations, attending to patients' welfare at all times.
5. Support service delivery to coordinate workflow and support facilities within specialised areas.
6. Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control at all times.
7. Be familiar with, understand, and apply the principles of Radiation Safety, both nationally and locally regulated or protocol led.
8. Participate in the 'Out of Hours' rosters to support full 7-day service delivery.
9. Provide support within the ultrasound department across multiple sites.
10. Facilitate communication between the department and all service users, including adherence to Trust policies.
11. Communicate with patients and professional colleagues in potentially traumatic situations.
12. Assist in the implementation of all manual and electronic information systems ensuring accurate data collection and recording.
13. Assist with the practical experience of newly inducted staff.
14. Ensure in-house stock movement, especially specialist room stocks, and linen handling according to infection control standards.
