Location: Northallerton or any NY Highways office within North Yorkshire

We have an exciting opportunity for a Health, Safety & Environment Risk Adviser to join our Shared Health and Safety Team. The Health and Safety Service team delivers high quality health, safety, and environmental services to NY Highways across all North Yorkshire.
This role is initially classified at Grade I, with the potential to start on, or to progress to Grade JK based on your qualifications, experience, and successful performance management.
The post is office-based with frequent visits to sites across North Yorkshire. North Yorkshire is a beautiful part of the world containing two national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty. It has approx. 9,500 KM of road which NY Highways maintains providing services such as winter maintenance, street lighting, and fleet workshops. No two days are the same.
We are supported with modern technology and accessibility to enable flexible and agile working from one of the seven area depots across North Yorkshire or from the head office at Northallerton. The role is Monday to Friday 08:30 to 17:00; however, times may be adjusted depending on patterns of work, centered on the needs of NY Highways.
As Health & Safety Risk Adviser, you will:
1. Deliver health, safety, and environmental advice and guidance to NY Highways staff.
2. Manage your own workload and build long-term relationships with NY Highways staff who will recognize and value your expertise.
To be successful you must:
1. Hold the NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification (for those with experience of operational construction activities and have SSSTS or SMSTS qualifications, we will help you gain your NEBOSH General Certificate).
2. Have effective influencing and negotiating skills.
3. Demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
4. Be able to work to deadlines and performance indicators.
5. Have the ability to work on your initiative and make evidence-based judgments.
6. Be able to problem-solve and find pragmatic solutions in professionally challenging situations.
And ideally:
1. Demonstrate experience of working and undertaking health and safety duties in a construction-based setting.
2. Technical IOSH Membership or be working towards it.
3. Have a proven track record in delivering customer-focused services.
4. Have experience of undertaking fire risk assessments.
