Main duties of the job
1. Ensure patient safety is maintained.
2. To undertake assessment, planning and evaluation of patients
3. To promote a culture of demonstrable best practice and integrated evidence based practice.
4. To provide clinical advice, support and education to professions/ staff and patients.
5. Work collaboratively and co-operatively with clinical colleagues within the ward.
6. To have an understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty and be able to apply to this in clinical practice.
7. To have an understanding of safeguarding, being able to appropriately identify those patients at risk, managing referrals and assist with investigations in line with Trust Policy and Procedure.
8. To provide support and care for the patient and his/her family respecting their need for privacy and dignity.
9. Be professionally responsible for adherence to Trust policies and procedures.
10. Produce written communications which are clear, fluent, concise and easily understood.
11. Carry out nursing procedures and treatments in accordance with approved procedures.
12. Ensure the delivery of evidence-based nursing care in accordance withNMC Code of Professional Conductwithin the clinical care area as an autonomous practitioner.
13. To continue own professional development in line with NMC guidelines and NMC revalidation.
14. Maintain clinical competence of self and others as determined by service need and job descriptions. Tasks to include male catheterisation, ECG, IV administration, Cannulation.

30. Ensure that equipment and the environment supports the delivery of high standards of care at all times.
31. To participate and prioritise developments within the Service as part of the Strategic/ business planning.
32. To assist with the management of ward resources in an efficient and effective manner.
33. Ensure information on the ward information system is correct and updated regularly.
34. Undertake staff appraisals and create a learning environment which facilitates learning and professional development.

Experience and Knowledge

35. Professional clinical experience in working within surgical environment
36. A knowledgeable clinician with the ability to apply evidence based practice
37. A sound knowledge of professional policies and procedures
38. Knowledge of clinical governance and a commitment to clinical supervision and staff development
Desirable
39. Ability to successfully manage people
40. Experience in participating in service improvement
41. Knowledge and experience in Elective surgery Enhanced care
Qualification and Professional Training

42. First level degree or willingness to undertaken
43. Current Professional Registration working as a band 5 or above for minimum of 2 years
