We are currently recruiting a Specialist Electrical Process Technician based at our Desalination plant at Thames Gateway Water Treatment Works. The role will also support the operation of the water treatment process.
You will be working at Thames Gateway WTW the only large-scale desalination plant used for drinking water in the UK, with a capacity of up to 100 million of water a day—a strategic site as part of the Thames Water drought plan. You will be working on the electrical assets across the site, working alongside the site process team.
You will be within multiple disciplined teams that follow a robust maintenance plan as well as getting involved in installation projects, electrical fault finding, project commissioning and emergency breakdown repairs.
Although this position is advertised as an electrical technician, dual-skilled workers in mechanical and electrical would be advantageous.
What you’ll be doing as the Specialist Electrical Process Technician
- Working on various stages of water treatment and their associated electrical equipment including three-phase motors, motor control centers, variable speed drives, power distribution equipment, actuators, and air circuit breakers.
- Examples of the assets across the site include pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, filtration plants, chemical dosing equipment, air compressors, pneumatic plant and sampling equipment.
- Investigate process plant failures and carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents.
- Carry out scheduled, planned maintenance and defective maintenance work on electrical equipment.
- Provide technical advice to the wider team and contractors and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
- Participating in a 24/7 out-of-hours standby rota will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment.
- Additionally, you will be required to undertake health and safety checks and take ownership of your own and your colleague's health and safety by escalating any concerns to your manager and resolving them yourself where possible.
Base Location: Thames Gateway - Essex - IG11 0AD.
Working Pattern or hours: 38 Hours per week Plus the inclusion onto a standby rota for which you will receive additional payment.
A company van is also provided.
What you should bring to the role
- Process experience within clean water process and the ability to coordinate & prioritise work.
- ONC or HNC relevant required. However, qualification in a technical discipline would be advantageous.
- Have working experience on major infrastructure projects.
- 18th Edition Electrical City and Guilds certification is crucial.
- Experience in electrical systems working in a true multi-skilled capacity.
- The ability to work unsupervised and be prepared to work both day shift and/or operate on a 12-hour continental shift pattern. (where cover is required)
- Prepared to be trained in safety procedures including Confined Space Entry.
- Significant experience in a relevant industry and with experience in managing or controlling the relevant processes or networks.
- Previous experience in reviewing and approving RAMS.
- Previous experience in issuing permits to contractors.
- Previous experience in undertaking isolations.
- Fully competent at using the appropriate Company IT systems and Office software.
- Previous experience with SCADA systems.
