Project Overview
Tarner is a charity dedicated to running children and young people’s services in the Tarner area of Brighton in partnership with the local community. Tarner has established an excellent reputation for delivering exciting projects with children and young people who are currently marginalised for whatever reason. We are based in a community building in Tarner Park where we currently run our children’s activities and several youth projects.
The Role
An exciting new opportunity has arisen at Tarner for someone with youth work experience at a Senior or Team Lead level. As Deputy Manager for the Youth Project, you will take the lead on specific sessions and projects and support the Youth Project Manager with all aspects of running this busy service. You will manage planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation, safeguarding and reporting. Staff management including: briefings, de-briefs and leading teams during sessions.
A key focus for this role is to work closely with other staff, young people, local agencies, funders and service providers, to develop a range of healthy activities for young people of all backgrounds in the Tarner area. To create opportunities for young people, play an active part in planning, organising, and delivering youth projects and support those who choose to participate in that process.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have proven practical experience of working within Youth Services and the ability to engage and build supportive relationships with young people. Ideally, you will have some knowledge of relevant government legislation relating to the Youth Sector and safeguarding. In addition to this you will be passionate, positive and approachable and be able to confidently liaise with local partners, agencies and funders as required. Ideally you will have experience of leading staff within the youth sector.
The Requirements
1. Ideally be degree or NVQ Level 3 qualified in Youth work and have leadership experience
2. Experience of design and implementation of youth projects
3. Possess excellent knowledge of Safeguarding
4. Good written and verbal communication skills
5. Good planning and organisational skills
Working with a local community charity, this opportunity provides the successful candidate a chance to have a significant positive impact on the ongoing high quality provision of youth services. It also offers the chance to work flexibly on a part time basis with a high level of autonomy, whilst working within a small professional team.
Tarner is a registered charity and also OFSTED registered. All post holders must have their criminal record checked via a DBS system.
