Axcis Education is working with a setting in Bodmin seeking experienced 1-1 Youth Mentors to work with students aged 5-16 years old, who have been excluded from mainstream schooling or are at risk of exclusion. Other pupils may be referred to the trust by the Local Authority. These children can display extremely challenging behaviour and may have experienced trauma in their lives.
This is a full-time role working from 8:30 to 3:30, including a 30-minute lunch. You must be able to commit Monday to Friday on a full-time basis. Car drivers would be advantageous as some learning takes place off-site.
The provision follows a primary and secondary style curriculum of separate lessons, including core English and Maths. All students have the opportunity to get involved in alternative curriculum activities, such as outside learning and vocational-based training. The core goals of the provision are to engage the most disengaged young people with complex social and domestic circumstances in a safe environment, giving them a chance to succeed with future aspects and skills when leaving schooling.
The ideal candidate will work with children who have SEMH and Challenging Behaviour. You must have experience with vulnerable and challenging individuals, either personally or professionally. The candidate will be a role model, working 1-1 closely with the pupils to support their behaviour, emotions, attendance, focus, and education. We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with SEND youths, can build good relationships with individuals, and is reliable and resilient in a fast-paced environment working with vulnerable children.
