Starting hourly rate at £13.00 per hour, once passed probationary period salary increases to £15.50 per hour.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work with a local, award-winning charity to join its dynamic lived-experience mentor team. Leo’s provides dedicated and targeted trauma informed intervention support for families who have experienced neonatal care or baby loss in the perinatal period, including those impacted by neonatal loss, stillbirth, miscarriage and termination for medical reasons.
The 12 month post, which has been funded by Middlesbrough Council as part of the Family Hubs Transformation Project, will require the post holder to work with marginalised communities within the town who experience health inequalities in maternity care, including neonatal care and pregnancy/baby loss.
The post holder will have the relevant lived experience of a maternal mental health illness, a neonatal stay or pregnancy/baby loss, a deep understanding of different cultures and religions within Middlesbrough town, and be able to generate new connections through networking whilst building relationships within the community and with key stakeholders such as MNVPs, the ICB and wider VCSE organisations.
The post holder will be confident in facilitating parent support groups within Middlesbrough Family Hubs and providing 1:1 peer mentoring in the community. You will have a good understanding of neurodevelopment in infants, trauma sensitive care, generational trauma and the impact of early life experiences. You will draw on the wealth of experience you have to provide a safe, nurturing space for those in your care.
You will engage local families to come to the various Family Hubs within the town, whilst working with the wider South Tees Family Hubs organisations to deliver a holistic and integrative approach to deliver the best outcomes for families.
You will have a good understanding of local organisations, safeguarding policies for adults and children, and a deep understanding of perinatal mental health needs.
You will work in conjunction with the Leo’s team, including the wider mentor team, and the therapy team, the Family Hubs Teams within Middlesbrough, the local authority, the NHS and the wider charity sector.
This role is fast-paced and will require a candidate who is passionate and driven with exceptional organisational and time management skills, the ability to manage a caseload with a variety of different mental health needs, have transferable skills which can support the full family unit, organise and facilitate groups, excellent communication skills which will see you work with NHS and Local Authority stakeholders as well as local charities to provide joined up, collaborative working, and the ability to advocate for families at specialist NHS and Local Authority Meetings.
You will need to hit the ground running with this role and be able to use initiative to work alone, as well as working with our wider and supportive team.
You will be passionate about learning new skills and attending training sessions to enhance the work you deliver.
You will be highly professional and represent the charity & The Middlesbrough Family Hubs to key stakeholders and families who may wish to access the service.
You will understand the importance of Trauma Informed and Trauma Sensitive Care and the role that historical trauma plays within current traumatic episodes. You will be passionate about delivering a trauma informed, early intervention model. You will understand the importance of early intervention and sensory neuroprotective care for children in neonatal care and under the age of three, as well as the significance of providing activities for positive interactions to support brain development.
You will be well-versed in maternal, paternal, infant and child mental health, as well as Adverse Childhood Experiences.
Your phone manner will be excellent, and you will have exceptional admin skills. You will be able to write and compile reports, collect data, and have good, professional writing skills, and be able to use Google Docs.
You will have a clear DBS and driving license as you will be required to travel to various locations. You will also be required to work at home.
* Lived experience maternal mental health, a neonatal stay, or a pregnancy or baby loss (minimum of five years post trauma, and have had supportive counselling to help you process your experience)
* Work with BME communities in a way that reflects their cultural heritage, linguistic and religious needs, and contemporary values and experiences.
* Suitable and supportive references

* Prior experience of data collection and administration work including compiling reports
* Excellent phone manner
* Working knowledge of Google Drive and Docs
* Exceptional planning and organisational skills
* Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care
* Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences and how that translates into a neonatal stay
* Must be able to speak English and one other language fluently and an awareness of issues affecting BME communities
* Understanding the Ockenden Report and the outcomes
* Understanding of the Neonatal Psychological Staffing Guidelines
* Understanding of sensory neuroprotective/neurodevelopment work within neonatal care
* Understanding of the 1001 Critical Days framework
* Prior mentor or mental health work
* Understand how Perinatal Mental Health fits within the NHS Long Term Plan
* Training in clinical note keeping
* Understanding of NHS ICS/ICB work
* Perinatal training
