THE ROLE
We’re looking for an experienced, versatile journalism coordinator to join the team here at BBC Radio Newcastle. We want a driven and passionate person who is keen to reach new audiences from diverse communities through our various platforms.
Main Responsibilities
* Support production teams and help deliver stories digitally, through social media and the local Sounds Rail.
* Provide production assistance in the studio or on location for live and recorded output.
* Contribute programme ideas and carry out research, under supervision, in support of journalists.
* Responsible for the simple operation of a variety of analogue and digital radio, digital editing.
* Work closely with the production team before, during and after the output production.
* Build and maintain contact lists and databases; research and compile source data into briefs for producers and presenters.
* Undertake a range of programme administration, including booking and coordinating production facilities; logging music output preparing programme scripts and running orders.
* Find contributors for items on programmes; persuade contributors to go on air.
* Deliver to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
* Carry out duties in accordance with the BBC health and safety policy.

* Demonstrate an understanding of how to tell stories digitally.
* Understand the basic language of the broadcast media and the differing needs of each show.
* For those appearing on air, possess a good microphone voice.
* Ability to originate and assist with the development of programme ideas and assess the relative merits of stories.
* Demonstrate ability and aptitude in the use of operational, broadcast and computer-based technology.
* Work well within a team as well as on own initiative.
* Demonstrate a commitment to improving diversity in the BBC.
* Think ahead to establish an efficient course of action for self and others.
* Establish rapport quickly with a wide range of people.
* Exhibit flexibility and adaptability to sustain performance under pressure.
* Understand social media.
* Possess good technical skills or the ability to learn.
* Willingness to broadcast live.
