New Reflexions, a well-established organisation known for its Outstanding and Good-rated schools and homes since 2007, is opening Old Windebrowe School — a brand new residential special school set in the beautiful surroundings of Keswick, Cumbria.
This is a unique opportunity to lead from the very start, taking ownership of the vision, values and success of a nurturing and inclusive educational setting for students aged 5–18 with complex learning disabilities and needs.
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate, ambitious and experienced Head Teacher to:
1. Lead the registration process and school launch
2. Deliver a nurturing primary model curriculum within a 24-hour integrated care framework
3. Create an inspiring vision for learning that motivates students and staff
4. Develop, implement, and lead a strategy for long-term educational success, underpinned by sound financial planning and inclusive values
5. Work alongside our Registered Manager
Key Responsibilities
Shaping the Future
1. Create and implement a shared vision and ethos for the school
2. Develop and maintain a strategic plan in collaboration with New Reflexions Directors
3. Build a culture of inclusion, high expectations, and continuous improvement
Leading Teaching and Learning
1. Ensure high-quality teaching through a stimulating, needs-led curriculum
2. Promote innovation, student engagement, and progress across all key stages
3. Implement effective assessment, behaviour, and attendance strategies
Staff Leadership and Development
1. Inspire, support, and develop a high-performing team
2. Delegate effectively, manage staff performance, and support professional growth
3. Lead by example and uphold the highest standards of conduct and professionalism
Deployment of Resources
1. Recruit, deploy and manage staff and resources in line with strategic goals
2. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and safeguarding responsibilities
3. Maximise value for money while improving learning outcomes
Strengthening Community Links
1. Promote inclusion, diversity, and community involvement
2. Build partnerships with parents, carers, agencies, and local stakeholders
3. Embed the school within the local community through shared initiatives and services
Person Specification
1. Have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a proven record of good or outstanding teaching practice
2. Have experience working with students with complex learning disabilities and SEN, with an understanding of managing behaviour that challenges and supporting students who are neurodiverse
3. Have experience in designing and delivering creative and engaging curriculums, with excellent management skills and the ability to work with various professional networks
4. Have the passion and resilience to make a difference to the lives of their students
