The Paediatric Spinal Team is a well established service providing management and care of children and young people with spinal deformity, spinal trauma and other spinal conditions. The department has particular expertise in the care and management of patients with neuromuscular and other specialist conditions. A joint satellite clinic with the Neurology team at Leeds General Infirmary is held quarterly. More than 100 surgical procedures are undertaken annually, with approximately four theatre sessions per week. We are also a major Trauma Centre and are involved in the care of those patients with a spinal injury. Specialist Nurses are an intrinsic part of the team and hold Nurse-led clinics for pre-operative assessment, ward discharge and monitoring with surface imaging. They are also responsible for the conservative management of infantile idiopathic scoliosis, including the serial plaster casting programme and application and management of gravity halo traction. We are looking for an experienced and motivated paediatric nurse to join our 5 Spinal Consultants and 2 Specialist Practitioners to be involved in all aspects of care. This post offers the opportunity to enhance your skills and further your professional development while working with our experienced nursing team, in the continuing improvement and expansion of the spinal service. The successful applicant will be expected to support Nurse-lead Clinics in the outpatient setting. Provide specialist advice and treatment to patients, families, schools and other healthcare professionals. Make referrals to appropriate agencies, support discharge planning, MDT meetings, and participate in providing treatments within the ward and theatre environments. Support and be instrumental in developing the service further and be able to work autonomously. Provide education and support to healthcare professionals, community teams and schools.
