We are a multi-disciplinary team of clinical and non-clinical staff who provide high quality, user-friendly diagnostic radiology service.

As a Band 6 Radiographer, you will be expected to work independently in accordance with departmental Standard Operating procedures and be accountable for your own actions to the Section Head of the MRI Department, escalating any concerns to your manager when necessary. The Imaging department provides a wide range of services for patients within a variety of settings. Services provided range from simple radiography to complex procedures such as CT, MRI and interventional procedures including the implantation of indwelling feeding catheters and pain relief devices where the patient may be sedated or anaesthetised.
The MRI service is a patient-focused service. Examinations are varied, ranging from Neuro, Pelvic and Abdominal, Musculoskeletal, Breast and Peripherals. The MRI service is provided for a range of patients such as neonates and elderly, inpatients, and outpatients. MRI scan results can be used to help diagnose conditions, plan treatments, and assess how effective previous treatment has been.
All employed MRI radiographers should expect to be rostered to work at both the acute hospital site and the community diagnostic centres where imaging services are being established.

Job responsibilities
You will be expected to lead by example and support the Imaging Service Lead in the delivery of MRI, which is safe, effective, and patient-friendly for patients referred to the Trust diagnostic services.
1. To provide a high quality responsive diagnostic service whilst maintaining a high standard of patient care.
2. To be responsible for the safe use of Imaging equipment within the MRI department, running quality assurance and fault-finding checks on equipment and taking action as appropriate.
3. To perform a range of examinations appropriate to the requirements of the referring clinician and the medical needs of the patient as an independent and autonomous practitioner.
4. To provide clear instructions and information to support and reassure patients and carers, ensuring they comply with all safety standards during their time in the MRI department.
5. To participate in extended working hours including weekend, evening and on-call duties as required by the service.
6. To assist in training and supervision of less experienced Radiographers and students within MRI.
7. To work within established departmental policies and procedures.
8. To undertake advanced practices such as MRI angiography, IV contrast injections, complex scans such as cancer staging, liver and bowel imaging and caring for sedated patients.
9. To develop and utilise sound skills and knowledge in all aspects of MRI Imaging.
10. To plan and prioritise own workload and assist in the triaging of workflow and patients within the MRI department by collaborating with colleagues to maximise departmental efficiency.
11. To be able to recognise abnormalities and irregularities in images, which can sometimes be subtle and take appropriate actions.
12. Assist in the development of CPD and undertake self-development to meet current requirements.
13. To assist with clerical tasks and supporting tasks in support of the service.
14. To perform MRI examinations in the best interests of the patient whilst using resources optimally and maintaining a safe environment for patient and public.
15. Following an MRI investigation to ensure that the results are appropriately acted upon and that the patient is aware of the next step in their medical management.
16. To participate in governance activities including departmental audits as required.
17. Assist in the development and monitoring of departmental audit and quality assurance programs.
18. To develop a good working knowledge of the functionality of all appropriate equipment within the MRI department and to report any faults to the MRI Lead.
19. Acquire a working knowledge of the radiology computer management system, computed radiography systems and departmental PACS.
20. Maintain safe systems of work by ensuring that all departmental policies and procedures are observed especially those relating to Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, MRI Safety, GDPR and COSHH.
21. Involved in the accreditation process and the maintenance and production of departmental policies and utilising SharePoint ensuring version control for departmental documents.
22. Provide complex clinical information to patients with tact and persuasive skills in order to gain consent and co-operation during complex examinations.

* Experience of workloads in busy NHS hospital
