Our client are a South Yorkshire based steel manufacturing company and due to a significant period of expansion, require an experienced Materials Planner at their site in Ossett.
Materials Planner to manage the ordering, scheduling, and inventory control of raw materials and components. The role involves working closely with production, procurement, sub contractors and suppliers to ensure materials are available on time and in the correct quantities, while optimising costs
Key Responsibilities:
1. Material Planning & Scheduling:
Develop and maintain material requirement plans (MRP) based on production schedules and forecasts.
Ensure materials are ordered and delivered on time to meet fabrication deadlines.
Monitor inventory levels and adapt schedules to ensure flow is not disrupted.
2. Supplier Coordination & Procurement:
Manage supplier relationships and resolve delivery issues, shortages, etc.
3. Production Support & Coordination:
Collaborate with production teams to ensure seamless material flow and prevent bottlenecks.
Analyse bill of materials (BOM) to align supply with production requirements.
Provide real-time material availability updates to fabrication teams.
4. Inventory & Cost Control:
Track and manage stock levels, reducing waste and obsolete materials.
Identify cost-saving opportunities through process improvements and efficient material usage.
5. Reporting & Continuous Improvement:
Generate weekly and monthly reports on material shortages, supplier performance, and delivery trends.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance supply chain efficiency.
Key Skills & Experience:
Experience: 3+ years in materials planning, supply chain, or procurement within fabrication, manufacturing, or engineering industries.
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with fabrication materials (steel, aluminium,, etc.) and BOM structures.
ERP/MRP Systems: Experience using material planning software (SAP, Oracle, or similar).
Analytical Skills: Strong data analysis and forecasting abilities.
Communication: Excellent negotiation and coordination skills with suppliers and internal teams.
Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot material shortages and optimize inventory.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree or certification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Engineering.
Experience in lean manufacturing or JIT inventory strategies.
Knowledge of fabrication processes and material handling
