Job Title: Assistant Children, Youth & Family Missioner
Location: Seaford Parish Church (St Leonard’s & St Luke’s), Seaford
Reports To: Children, Youth & Family Missioner
Term: 3 years fixed, with potential for extension (subject to funding)
Purpose of Role:
This is a challenging, rewarding and pioneering position to work within one Church with two buildings in the parish to deliver on our children, youth and family strategic vision which will enhance and developmentally bring families and young people into a relationship with God and connect with our Parish.
Working alongside the Children, Youth & Family Missioner, the aim of the role is to develop new faith enriched groups, whilst helping to also keep our current groups thriving and to ultimately bring more children, young people and families to understand the truth about Jesus, as we seek to flourish their spiritual growth whilst they explore a relationship with Jesus.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
Church:
1. Continuing to support and further develop the existing children and family ministry, through dynamic and effective programmes of youth work and related activities.
2. Building upon the existing good relationships between those involved in working with children, youth and families in the Church and community.
3. Working in partnership with the music group who provide music for worship at Messy Church and other family worship times at St. Leonard’s as well as the music director at St. Luke’s.
4. Developing, organising and delivering teaching material and activities for Messy Church and other family worship.
5. Working in partnership with the volunteer team leaders, providing appropriate training support and pastoral care.
6. Supporting and encouraging children, young people and families to grow in their faith; including their knowledge of the Bible, understanding of being a disciple of Jesus, awareness and capacity to live a Spirit-led life, and to become active members of their local church family. This will involve everyday contact and importantly, pastoral care.
7. Praying regularly for and with those in the team working with children, youth and their families.
8. Assisting with recruitment, management and developmental of training of volunteers for children, youth and family ministries.
Community Outreach:
1. Conducting outreach work with children, youth and families in the community by building upon and developing age-appropriate clubs and activities.
2. Building upon and where necessary developing further links between the churches and other organisations, including local schools.
3. Supporting other communities/faith organisations across the locality regarding youth provision.
4. Offering support, training and supervision where required to others locally working with children and young people.
5. Liaising with other workers in the local area to build good working relationships with the Community organisations for the good of children and families locally.
6. Developing contact with schools in the town in for example, assemblies, PTA.
7. Working alongside the schools in supporting the transition from primary to intermediate and secondary schools.
8. Aiding with establishing and promoting discipleship groups for various ages covering children, young people and parents/carers (for example Breakfast Prayer Club, Homework and Devotional Club, Dad’s group, Mum’s Group).
9. Aiding in the transition of relationships from outreach to intentional.
Existing Groups:
1. Provide co-ordination and continuity by working in partnership with the existing Children, Youth and Family Missioner, volunteer workers and helpers at Messy Church once a month.
2. Glow (1st & 3rd Sundays of the month).
3. Family Worship (2nd & 4th Sundays of the month).
4. Tots’ Treats at both Church buildings weekly (Wednesdays in St Luke’s & Thursdays in St Leonard’s).
5. Open Church mornings once a month and Seaford Magic annually.
6. Assist with organising & supporting additional activities for children and youth.
General Accountability of The Role:
1. To always represent the church with passion and enthusiasm.
2. To maintain effective administration and detailed record keeping for all aspects of the work.
3. To ensure all activities are fully safeguarded and assessed for risk.
4. To seek out new opportunities and apply for additional Children, Youth & Family funding to help support ministries.
5. To promote activities through social media and other channels.
6. To seek funding for future activities in collaboration with local partners.
