Business Development MEP Engineer - Role Description
Job Purpose:
As part of the Company's Business Development and MEP teams, and reporting to the Commercial Operations Director, this role involves engaging directly with clients to present the full range of MEP services, understanding project requirements, and providing tailored fee proposals. The role closely collaborates with internal marketing operations and requires a commercially minded individual focused on increasing enquiries and driving sales.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
* Promote the Company's MEP Services: Enhance the profile and reputation of the Comapny's building services across the UK.
* Marketing & Networking: Actively market the Company’s services through networking, business meetings, seminars, thought leadership, and general business development activities.
* Commercial Strategy: Develop and manage commercial strategies for MEP projects, ensuring alignment with business growth objectives.
* Client Engagement: Build strong relationships with clients, thoroughly understanding their project requirements, and providing tailored solutions demonstrating how the Company's services can meet their needs.
* Proposal Development: Prepare bespoke fee proposals promptly using the Company’s CRM system.
* Upselling Opportunities: Identify opportunities to offer additional consultancy services, including façade engineering, façade access, structures, and fire engineering.
* Reporting & KPIs: Provide weekly reports on business development activities, including:
* Enquiries received
* Instructions received
* Fee proposals produced
* Quotes followed up
* Meetings with prospective clients/projects
* Meetings with existing clients
* CPDs and presentations delivered
* Client Meetings: Conduct face-to-face meetings to enhance the Company’s reputation and service awareness.
* Relationship Building: Foster and strengthen relationships with clients, maintaining regular communication to ensure satisfaction and identify new opportunities.
* Service Articulation: Clearly explain and showcase the benefits of the Comapny's service offering to clients.
* Project Handover: Collaborate with consultancy teams to ensure effective handover of project requirements.
* Marketing Collaboration: Work closely with the marketing team to promote the Company’s services effectively.
Required Skills:
* Proven experience as a Senior MEP Engineer.
* Exceptional communication and presentation skills to effectively promote the Company’s services.
* Strong drive to meet and exceed sales targets.
* Professional telephone and interpersonal skills for client engagement and relationship building.
* Ability to clearly articulate technical concepts and benefits to a range of audiences.
* Collaborative approach to teamwork, with strong interpersonal skills.

Person Specification:
* Qualification in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering discipline.
* Membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., CIBSE, CIOB, or equivalent).
* Excellent spoken and written English, with high-level grammar and communication skills.
* A Senior MEP Engineer seeking to transition from technical roles to commercial activities.
