About the Team
The R&D Technical Consultancy Team is a core function within CBTax, responsible for helping businesses identify, assess, and document innovative projects that qualify for R&D tax relief. We work with companies across a range of industries, including technology, engineering, software, life sciences, pharma, manufacturing, and more, ensuring that their claims are technically robust, compliant with HMRC regulations, and maximised for financial benefit.
Our team consists of industry experts, engineers, scientists, and tax professionals, all collaborating to translate complex technical work into compelling claims.
About the Role
As an R&D Technical Consultant, you will play a key role in engaging with clients, identifying qualifying R&D activities, and producing detailed technical reports to support their tax relief claims.
You will interact with business leaders, engineers, and scientists, gaining insights into some of the most innovative projects in the UK. This role is ideal for a STEM professional or technical writer with a strong understanding of innovation and problem-solving who is interested in applying their knowledge in a consultancy setting.
In this Role, You'll
1. Engage with clients

5. Stay up to date with HMRC R&D tax guidelines
6. Support claim submissions and respond to HMRC enquiries
7. Advise clients on best practices
We're Seeking Someone with Experience Including
1. STEM degree (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics)
2. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess technical projects.
3. Excellent written communication skills, with experience in technical writing or reporting.
4. Ability to interpret and summarise complex technical concepts for a non-technical audience.
5. Comfortable working directly with clients, asking the right questions to uncover R&D activities.
Nice to haves:
1. Experience in R&D tax relief consultancy or technical grant funding.
2. Background in engineering, software development, or scientific research.
3. Familiarity with UK tax incentives for research and development.
4. Previous experience in interviewing engineers or technical professionals.
