Arun Church is looking for a Coffee Shop Manager to oversee Refresh coffee shop at The Wickbourne Centre, building the business into a thriving and welcoming community venue. Role Purpose: To manage the Refresh coffee shop, growing the customer base so that more people attend The Wickbourne Centre, making the business sustainable. Initial Goal: To work with the Leadership and Staff teams to generate and deliver a strategy to increase the business income to £28,500 in one year (growing from £200 to £2,500 per month). Key tasks: 1. Serve Customers Open the coffee shop consistently, building up the business hours to generate income and to be sustainable a. Work the counter; taking orders, serving drinks and taking payments. b. Engage positively with customers providing great products and service c. Create a warm and welcoming environment, d. Help promote the services of the church and centre to customers. 2. Develop a Team Recruit, train and lead a team of volunteers a. Develop a team to ensure the coffee shop can be open consistently, including church events at evenings and weekends. b. Ensure team are well trained in all systems and processes so that quality and service is consistently good. 3. Oversee Operations a. Manage stock and inventory, placing orders and reporting. b. Expand and improve the product offerings, introducing new options that meet the demand of customers c. Adhere to Health & Safety procedures and maintain standards of excellence (food prep, cleaning, stock rotation, etc). d. Monitor pricing, costs and budgets, following all financial control procedures. e. Work with the church staff team to create a more welcoming environment in The Wickbourne Centre and Refresh coffee shop, reviewing and developing the atmosphere and design. 4. Marketing & Promotion Create and develop strategies to attract and retain customers. a. Work with the church social media lead to build a strong online presence that promotes the coffee shop and related activities (updated website and business listings, post multiple times a week on Facebook and Instagram, respond to comments within 24 hours). b. Work with the wider church team to host regular events in the coffee shop that draw in customers (e.g. after-school sessions, board game afternoons, movie mornings, seasonal competitions, afternoon tea for retiree’s, etc.) c. Run targeted promotions and events to boost sales including loyalty cards, limited time offers, seasonal drinks, etc. d. Use posters, table signage and other options to push in-house marketing. 5. Other duties a. To work within the church’s Safeguarding policy, reporting any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead. b. To attend staff meetings and line management supervision, and to undertake training as required. c. To compile reports and updates on your areas of responsibility as required. d. To carry out other such duties as may be required from time to time. Hours: 15 hours per week Work Pattern: Usually Monday to Friday between 8:45am-11:45am with flexibility to match busy sessions including evening and weekend commitments by agreement. Work Base: The Wickbourne Centre, Littlehampton, West Sussex, BN17 7DZ Reports to: The Arun Church Executive Leader Contract: Initial 12-month contract with renewal subject to business performance Salary: £24,943 per annum pro rata. Pension: Employer contributions start at 5% of salary. Annual Leave: 25 days per annum pro rata, plus bank holidays. Qualifications Desirable: A Level 3 or above certificate in retail, hospitality or a related field. Food hygiene, allergy awareness, or barista training certificates. Personal qualities and values Essential: Friendly, approachable, and aligned with the social mission of Arun Church. A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to work independently. Desirable: Ability to engage and build relationships with a diverse customer base Evidence of willingness to undertake further personal and professional development. Knowledge and experience Essential: At least 2 years in hospitality, retail or a related field. Desirable: Experience in social media marketing, event planning, or promotions. Understanding of basic business finances (tracking sales, stock control, pricing). Safeguarding experience with children and families and a good understanding of the principals involved. Technical proficiency Essential: Good organisational skills with the ability to learn new technologies. Desirable: Familiarity with POS systems, Canva (for marketing), and Microsoft Office. Key Skills Essential: Customer service, communication, and team leadership. Desirable: Experience running a business, managing budgets, or increasing sales.
