An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic Financial Inclusion Officer to work within the Revenues Service. This post is based in John Muir House, Haddington. Home working is a possibility after training. IT equipment will be provided.
The post is a senior position within the Financial Inclusion Team. The successful candidate will have an impressive understanding of the UK and Scottish Social Security system. They will have experience of advising and supporting people, from making claims all the way through to appeal representation at HM Courts & Tribunal Service. They are required to be pro-active and engage with information sources to keep their knowledge of all benefits and advice strategies relevant. They are responsible for feeding this information back into the team. They are responsible for supporting Financial Inclusion Advisers with complex cases and offering shadowing and learning opportunities. The Financial Inclusion Officer will peer review casework in relation to Scottish Standards. The successful candidate will be aware of external influences which could impact on service demand and delivery. They will assist the Team leader in developing short- and long-term goals and strategies. They will also have an active role collaborating with the Team Leader to obtain Scottish Standards.
The successful candidate will help to reduce poverty and inequalities through the delivery of an efficient and effective financial inclusion service and will help to build financial resilience within our communities, collaborating closely with other Council services and external agencies to deliver a joined-up approach.
The successful candidate must be initiative-taking and demonstrate experience and ability working within a client-driven/welfare environment. Experience of income maximisation is essential. Excellent people skills and the ability to deal sensitively with customers facing significant changes in their life is essential.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisational and negotiation skills and be able to work remotely in an effective way, using Microsoft Office applications and other Council IT systems.

Job Details
As part of the Council’s Financial Inclusion team, the Jobholder is responsible for the delivery of an effective and efficient Financial Inclusion service by providing information and advice to East Lothian residents.
The main purpose of the role is to carry out benefit checks, advise on entitlement, encourage take up, assist with benefit applications, liaise with DWP and other agencies, and prepare for and represent customers at Mandatory Reconsideration and Appeals Tribunals.
