Bracknell Forest Borough Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Social Worker to join the Duty & Assessment Team in Bracknell Forest. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified social worker to work within a dynamic and supportive team, focusing on the assessment and management of cases involving children and families. The role offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring children and families receive timely, safe, and appropriate interventions.
As a Social Worker in the Duty & Assessment team, you will conduct initial assessments, respond to referrals, and contribute to decision-making in safeguarding and support for families. The role will also involve assessing and managing risks, developing care plans, and ensuring all statutory duties are met within required timescales.
Key Responsibilities:
* Screen and assess incoming referrals for children and families, ensuring assessments are completed in a timely and thorough manner.
* Conduct initial assessments to determine the needs and risks to children and families, identifying whether further intervention is required.
* Respond effectively to urgent situations involving vulnerable children and families, ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
* Risk assess cases and make informed decisions regarding whether children need to be placed on a Child Protection Plan or if other services are more appropriate.
* Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure the needs of children and families are met and that interventions are coordinated effectively.
* Develop Child in Need (CIN) plans and contribute to Child Protection (CP) and Care Plans for children subject to statutory intervention.
* Provide direct support to children, young people, and their families, ensuring plans are child-centred and outcome-focused.
* Ensure that Family Support Plans are reviewed regularly and that any changes in the family’s situation are promptly addressed.
* Work with children and families to empower them to engage in services that help reduce risk and promote positive change.
* Work within a multi-disciplinary team, engaging with health, education, police, and other agencies as part of the child protection process.
* Participate in Strategy Meetings, Child Protection Conferences, and Review Meetings, making contributions to the ongoing safety and well-being of children.
* Communicate effectively with families, ensuring they are fully engaged in the process and receive appropriate advice, support, and referrals to other services.
* Ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and legislation (e.g., Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018).
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, documenting assessments, decisions, actions, and reviews within the case management system.
* Ensure all documentation meets the required statutory standards and is prepared for court hearings if necessary.
Requirements of the Social Worker:
* A recognised Social Work Qualification.
* Understanding of relevant legislation and commitment to continual professional development.
* Registration with Social Work England.
