Syre & North Loch Naver Estates are adjoining remote, upland, sporting estates located in Strathnaver, Sutherland. They include three of six rotating beats on the renowned River Naver which is one of the very best, private salmon rivers in the country. Extending to some 23,000 acres in total, with red deer stalking, numerous hill lochs, woodcock shooting and the impressive Syre Lodge at its heart, the Estates offer a unique sporting experience in stunning, unspoilt countryside. We are looking to recruit a full time Ghillie to work on the River Naver during the fishing season and outside the fishing season, to assist with general estate maintenance, stalking and shooting. You will report directly to the Head Ghillie. The Ghillie’s job description: Ø To ghillie on one of the River Naver’s rotating beats during the fishing season (12th January to 30th September) Monday to Friday and a half day on Saturday Ø To cover for the Head Ghillie when he is on annual leave Ø Assisting the Head Ghillie in keeping and reporting accurate fishing catch records and to work with the River Bailiff if required Ø Stalking with guests and to assist the Head Ghillie/Stalker to undertake deer culls in line with Deer Management Group requirements. Assist in the accurate report of deer cull records Ø To attend woodcock shoots as required Ø To attend to all guests on the Estate and ensure their stay is made as enjoyable and as pleasurable as possible Ø During the winter months to undertake estate maintenance works as and when required including but not limited to fencing, walling, property repairs and road repairs Ø To undertake habitat management as required and to control predators and pests Ø To participate with the Estate’s conservation work including habitat monitoring and assessments Ø To assist with the Estate’s farming and forestry management operations as required Ø To assist with looking after all estate machinery and keep clean and tidy Ø To liaise with other estate employees Ø If required, to assist with maintaining all properties on the estate including inspecting/checking empty properties Ø To work closely with the Estate Owners and their Factor as required Ø To act as a good ambassador for the Estate and to ensure that good and respectful relations continue to be maintained with the local community Ø To ensure all Estate working policies, including health and safety, are adhered to and are implemented Ø Plus anything else that is reasonably required Ø You will be encouraged to take your holidays outside the fishing season. It is an interesting and varied position dealing directly with guests during the fishing season and assisting in all aspects of the running and maintenance of a highland sporting estate.
