Job summary These posts are based at St Mary's Hospital. The unit comprises a 32 bedded modern facility on the 9th floor. Every bed is fully equipped with standardized modular monitoring and with information technology (ICCA/ICIP) allowing access to pathology and radiology results and patient documentation. St Mary's is a busy tertiary referral and teaching centre as well as a top performing UK major trauma centre (TARN data[TS1]). Tertiary specialties include major trauma, major upper and lower GI surgery, vascular surgery in addition to general surgery and medicine. The fellowship in intensive care is open to international medical graduates who have done part or whole of their specialty training. A minimum of 1 year of intensive care experience is required along with 6 months in either acute/general medicine, anaesthetics or emergency medicine. Complete airway management independence is a requirement to apply for the post. The department offers GMC sponsorship for which IELTS academic or OET are fundamental requirements. Fellows will also gain experience in various aspects of critical care such as Echocardiography, simulation, advanced airway management and experience in the ethical framework of managing critically ill patients. Main duties of the job Provide High Quality Care to Patients in Critical Care Medicine As part of a team including consultants, core trainees, registrars and fellows, provide day to day care to adult ICU patients Take part in daily multi-specialty ward rounds with neuro / trauma/vascular surgeons. Attend microbiology ward rounds and MDT meetings. Review referrals from wards, ED and theatres and assist in their management Liaise with referring teams and other specialists Provide information to families and relatives as delegated by the on-duty consultant Research, Teaching and Training Take part in teaching and research opportunities provided by the department Enter patients into research trials as appropriate and assisted by the research team Develop research projects as appropriate Develop teaching skills as required and assist with bed side teaching of more resident doctors and undergraduates Clinical Governance Participate in department quality and M&M meetings.
