Senior Client Accountant
Job Description Summary
Provide leadership and supervision to accounting team members at all levels, supporting operations and clients by applying sound judgement and discretion in accounting principles. Assess team and departmental efficiencies, recommending improvements where necessary. The Senior Client Accounting Manager also provides guidance to Client Accounting Managers and is relied upon for solutions in complex management-level situations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Oversee market, strategic, and/or key client(s) and develop productive relationships with stakeholders.
2. Monitor team performance, capacity, and training needs through regular meetings and timely resolution of deficiencies.
3. Review team members' financial reports to ensure quality, timeliness, and audit compliance.
4. Ensure timely tax payments, revenue portal updates, time tracking, and corporate ageing follow-ups.
5. Assess and recommend improvements to team/department workflows and policies for efficiency.
6. Track compliance with SOC 1 audit controls and approve transactions, schedules, and reports per SOC policies.
7. Develop direct reports through goal setting, performance reviews, and delivering feedback.
8. Work with leadership to implement departmental goals, lead projects, and contribute to Client Accounting committees.
9. Direct new business onboarding, including coordinating with property management and clients.
10. Assist the Controller with pricing new business and preparing proposal responses.
11. Perform other related duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
1. Lead and delegate tasks to Client Accounting Managers, Senior Client Accountants, and other team members.
2. Coordinate project team efforts to meet deadlines.
3. Provide solutions to routine and complex problems.
Qualifications & Experience
1. A degree in Finance or Accounting is preferred.
2. Seven to ten years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3. At least two years of management experience preferred.
Specialised Knowledge & Skills
1. Strong knowledge of Yardi and/or MRI software preferred.
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
3. Experience in financial reporting for multiple entities.
4. Strong customer service, time management, and organisational skills.
5. Strong delegation skills with a hands-on approach.
6. Ability to train, mentor, and coach effectively.
7. Results-oriented with a strong sense of urgency.
8. Demonstrated leadership and accountability skills.
