Hours: Part time, 24 hours a week. During install of Undershed exhibitions, the producer will be required to be flexible with their working hours and take TOIL accordingly in other quieter weeks.

Purpose of job
In October 2024, Watershed opened a new gallery for showing interactive and immersive artwork called Undershed. Operating alongside our film programme, it will be home to curated exhibitions of art works that use technology to actively involve the audience. The Producer will work with the Undershed Curator and wider Watershed team on the planning, design and delivery of the programme.
Main responsibilities
The producer manages all practical operations of the gallery. This is broken down into:
Exhibition Production
* Project manages the annual programme
* Project manages individual exhibitions - all physical and digital install and de-rig of exhibitions
* Recruits and manages install freelancer team for physical build of any exhibition elements, power, lighting & tech
* Supports the Curator in relationships with artists as they bring their work to the space
* Collaborates with Curator in the exhibition and experience design of the gallery
Budget
* Manages the annual budget that covers all Undershed activity as well as individual exhibitions
* Ensures invoices to freelancers are paid in a timely manner
* Regularly reports internally
Risk
* Responsible for risk assessment and any other H&S concerns regarding exhibitions
* Develops ticketing models with Box Office, Comms and FOH
* Works with Curator and Comms team on audience evaluation method and process
* Works with Curator and Comms team on audience development / engagement with the exhibitions - planning & implementation
Communications
* Supports Curator and works with Comms team on development of exhibition signage, accompanying text, way-finding, FAQs and any other comms needs - includes both the language and the graphic design
Other
* Close collaboration with other Watershed operational teams to ensure smooth working with relevant team members
* Contributes to good relationships with other cultural organisations in the city through networking and maintaining good relations to establish a sense of Undershed’s place in the ecosystem
Key performance indicators
* Productive collaborations are formed with the wider Watershed team; existing and new partners and freelance collaborators as well as funders and sponsors
* Undershed’s programme of exhibitions and events are well organised, regarded, documented and attended
* Contributes positively to the delivery of Watershed’s creative vision, values, business model and profile
* Watershed is represented enthusiastically and professionally at public and industry events
* Financial records are up to date and budgets are within their set limits each year
* Experience of managing a venue, exhibition, theatrical or other comparable space with live events and exhibitions
* Excellent budgeting skills, with a capacity to handle changing information and nuanced forecasting
* Demonstrable interest in working with XR and immersive technologies
* Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to checking the accuracy of information
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
* Ability to act as an ambassador for Undershed and deal effectively with people at all levels

We will be conducting short interviews with all applicants who meet the essential criteria. A shortlist will then be invited to a longer second interview.

Second round interview: Wed 19 March - Thu 20 March

Opening hours
At full operation, Watershed is open seven days a week, including Bank Holidays (Christmas Day and Boxing Day are the only exceptions). Watershed is a public building, which operates a diverse range of cultural and commercial activities. The post holder will need to be comfortable working in this environment.
